What’d you work on today?

.4 on both readings, high and low. I did pull the high limit and it looked to have heat discoloring on the sheathing, not sure if that's normal? I did pull a boner and let the filter get way to filthy, it's right above where I create a lot of dust. The fan wasn't pushing much air at all and I pointed my infra-red at the supply grill which is 4 ft. from the burner and it was 120-130. Changed the filter and it lowered the temp to around 95 and wayyyy more airflow. Stupid me, but I do change that filter at least 4 times a year.

Trane XR90 furnace Rick. I ohmed the switches but can't remember the number. Honestly didn't think it was important as long as it wasn't an open reading. If it is important I'll test again and get back to you. Sure appreciate that!! I've had intermittent trouble with it before, and it was relaying a 3 pulse code......all I did was toggle the door switch several times and it would correct itself. That may or may not be related to the current issue, as it was going through the cycles, inducer fan, but no burner light. Now it's a different code and inducer fan comes on with the blower without cycling.
Do you have the serial number? first thing tech support will ask for are model & serial numbers, Im not familiar with Trane furnaces, possibly a bad igniter

It might not let it fire if the furnace thinks too much static pres from no air flow, is it firing off now?

A cpl yrs ago I worked on a Trane heat pump split system that was under 5 yrs old, every now and then in heat mode the electric air handler would turn on when the Tstat told it to but the outdoor heat pump wouldn’t turn on, installing company that are Trane auth couldn’t figure out why, I went there and couldn’t figure out why either but if you crack the door on the furnace to let the air equalize the outdoor heat pump turned on lol, too many built in Bells & Whistles IMO

Model #TDX060C936D2
Serial # 30641NU7G

New filter, code says open high limit switch but it says .4 ohms. It's not firing, not even glowing the ignitor, going straight to blower fan.

I’ll call tech in the AM, I’m not working tomorrow so will be available all day 🙂 I’m Eastern time and 6pm here now

Much appreciated Rick. I just ordered the switch, with any luck it'll arrive in a few days. It does make sense this is the problem since the filter issue was overheating the entire furnace and the switch sheath was brown on the burner side... should be white.

It's a few minutes to 8am so 8:10-8:15 I'll give tech a call and hopefully get a quick answer, one of our insurance ladies had a guy install a new Champion 5 ton heat pump split systems in her and her husbands home as a side job WO going through the company he worked at, unit Cooled fine in the summer but would Not put out any Heat in the winter, husband had an argument with the ac guy and told him "Don't Come Back Here" after the guy couldn't figure out the problem, I went there and found the guy installed a 5KW back up electric heat kit on a 60 amp existing circuit, should've been 10KW so I changed that, found it was kicking out High pres switch when it Heat mode on the heat pump, called Champion tech support and got a young lady that eventually said she'd only been there 3 months and was No help, I asked for a senior tech but none were available, Day 2 they had enough electric heat to be comfortable but leaving it like that on a 2,000+ Sq Ft home would've made a very high elec bill, called tech support again and No help, Day 3 Finally got a senior tech, the air handler that had a 5 ton model number was only good for 5 ton Straight Cool W/electric heat Not heat pump, only good for a 4 ton heat pump and senior tech said to change the air handler from a B model to a C model, I explained about the installer, tech connected us (by this time I had speaker phone on so owners can hear conversation) to Champion Consumer Affairs and the lady asked for Model & Serial #'s then said where the system was purchased and it should Never have been sold as a matched system and she gave us the phone number of the supplier, at that point I told the owners if they can get the supplier to exchange the air handler I'd be happy to give them a good deal on labor to swap it out, I let enough refrigerant out of the system to work in heat pump mode and in cool mode but that lowered the efficiency, the supplier Refuses to take back the wrong AH and give them the correct AH, giving Trane tech a call now

I spoke with Cameron at Trane Residential tech support and explained what the units doing, said you're my cousin in another state and I'm trying to help out, they want the tech/repairman on site for diagnosing, and he 100% agreed about the limit switch, I told him you had already ordered a new switch and if that doesn't fix it I'll call back, this is Florida Trane Res tech number 844-358-7263 but it shouldn't matter what state you're in, I wouldn't think

Big help Rick!! I'm also confident it'll solve this, but even in my areas of expertise it's always a HUGE plus to have backup!!! I'd bet you experience similar situations of vendor incompetence as I have. Businesses have become more like medical clinics, you see teers of care until an actual doctor does a fly-by to put there rubber stamp on the issue, which qualifies for full insurance billing. It's "value engineering" at play in the service industry.

I put the Drv door weather seal on a cpl weeks ago and had to Slam the door really hard to get it to close tight, left the doors alone and now closing good 👍👍🙂

I haven’t worked on this yet but will asap, I was walking past my 05 Express 2500 and looked at the L front wheel and noticed the brake rotor looked rough, I bought this van in 08 at IIRC 52K miles and have about 166K now and can’t remember doing brakes on it so I’m ordering front rotors and pads for all 4 wheels, guess Rock Auto is best place to shop? PS rear rotors look ok

I buy local for that stuff. Oreilly's works well and they have different grades from cheap to best.

I don't like Rock Auto's shipping.

Do an online comparison. If you go with Advance, sign up and put stuff in your cart. Wait. In a few hours you will get a discount code for the order. Order online and pick up in the store.

Advance won't honor warranties. Bought 2 batteries for my F250 and when they crapped out they refused to honor the 4 year warranty I paid for. Said they changed the policy. I'll never shop there again.

Do not just change out the pads on the rear rotors without getting them machined. They may look fine, but the new pads will wear very quickly on the rotors. ALWAYS get rotors/drums machined before installing new pads/shoes.
