What’d you work on today?

COLD nasty day, hail and snow, so staying inside.
Fired up the wood stove to make it bearable.
Ordered a carb kit for the lawn tractor, weeds are not bothered by mere cold weather.
Since the lawn tractor is not running well I abused the Land Rover to pull a drag around the yard.
Being trapped it was a good day to do some inventory on the 327 to remember where I stand with it.

The opposite here. Warm day but a little windy, unloaded much from the trailer into the front gardens, about 9 yards. I still have about 3 yards in the trailer, need to start working on the back yard.

Stuffed my face with the first holiday meal in our new place. After the feast Lisa cooked for our family, everyone is in a food coma. It don't get no better than that boys.

If your woman can cook, clean, give you lovin', and is responsible with money, you got a winner and never let her go.

I did Laundry 😆 Kathy washed dishes, I dried then we played a board game for about 15-20 min and looking online for another Hasbro game, or maybe Jenga Kathy likes these said it helps keep her brain sharp 👍👍🙂 She beat me most plays lol

Ruined a $300 Lotus part.
Tried to press my new adjustable timing gear onto the cam.
I had intended to chill the cam in dry ice and heat the gear hub first.
"Oh, that is not necessary" said the experts.
When am I going to learn to take MY own advice?
If the fits are scored up a little, maybe you can knock off the burrs and try again ?

The hub was softer than expected and is trashed.
I think they should have made it with at least some pilot bore to ensure it goes on strait.

For what I have into this engine I am taking no chances.
Selling my deer hunting rifle to buy another. :(
Never seem to draw a tag anyway.
I still have my Pew-Pew's.

I went back to Fridays job to meet the inspector, swap a 30 & 45 amp breakers to 20 & 50 amp, set a ladder up for the inspector (they bring their own but I feel it’s a good Curtesy to do it) I texted the inspector to get a 2 hour window and he called me saying he knows our work so just send him some pics 👍👍

This was a couple weeks ago but cleaned and painted the engine block in anticipation of reinstalling engine. Was black and I wanted to go back to orange.
Can was Duplicolor engine paint, said Chevrolet orange. It looked a little more fluorescent than I thought it should be but I figure Duplicolor knows better than I do. Hope I can find a powder coat for the valve covers that matches. Not sure what I’ll do. I have a set of MT cast aluminum covers (tall) and old generic regular chrome covers. I would have to blast the chrome to remove prior to powder coat. IMG_3557.jpegIMG_3561.jpeg

I had removed the freeze plugs and the drain plugs on the side of the engine because I guess I didn’t have enough antifreeze in my coolant and had some corrosion so I wanted to thoroughly flush the block. Because of this I’ll probably try to run my old radiator for a bit so it captures any crud. Then switch to the new aluminum Champion radiator.

M/T alum VC's would be my choice, I left a nice set on the 454 I sold my friend when he talked me down from $2K to $1K (but allowed me to use the shop & lift pretty much whenever I needed) but I needed tall VC's, wishing I'd bought spacers, your engine looks great too

They sell thick VC gaskets that will clear your rocker arms. These are .330" thick

My choice too, I'm using a '427' set on the Vette.

Those VC’s on the 454 are long gone along with the 454, my friend died 1/1/23 and someone took the engine from the shop

Would I need tall valve covers? This had a warmed over Lunati Voodoo can (can’t remember the lift but it’s a streetable cam) and stock ratio Comp cams roller rockers. I like the look of factory stamped steel valve covers.
