Firewall insulation pad

I’ve already put kilmat on the firewall but firewall insulation pad is cheap and I want to do what I can to keep the car quiet so I planned to install original style juke insulation. The part I bought from OPGI I think is a bit poorly make in the there are no cutouts for the where the ac/heater core box mounts to the firewall.

Question is, does the insulation get sandwiched between the heater/ac box and the firewall or does it fit around the perimeter of the box (but not sandwiched)?

I can see where the pad could act as a gasket of sorts since the box doesn’t mate up perfectly to the firewall and there are little gaps.

Thanks.
It’s a 67 with AC btw

A "Dynomat" type product under the carpet and in the doors will help with noise. I had this put in the roof and floor of my Gold Chevelle, definitely helps. My Bronze Chevelle has factory insulation and to be honest, I have never really complained about the noise BUT I am running small blocks with stock exhaust.
