1963 Massey Ferguson 35 Diesel Deluxe

I was parked next to a rat rod at a recent show, and commented on the patina. He said lots of folks use a matte clear paint, but a better way is to rub it down with linseed oil. His really looked great and he sais he reapplies it every 6 months with a rag.
Just a thought.

I've been researching and just read about that. That seems like the best way to go.
 
Well, installed the new starter, she spun over freely, but the fuel pump is bad, so with a little coaxing (and a little ether), she sputtered, so I know she'll run.

Now to order a fuel pump rebuild kit. I can buy an after market fuel pump, but trying to keep it as original as possible.
 
Is your clutch free? I had to unstick mine.

Don't know yet, I didn't go crazy with the ether. Tried to buy a rebuild kit for the fuel pump, but couldn't find any. Funny part is a new fuel pump was $10 more.

Fuel pump is supposed to come on Saturday, so I'll throw that on and work to the next problem. Not sure of the condition of the injector pump, but I'll find out shortly.

Haven't even checked the cooling system yet, but the radiator is dry, so it must have a leak somewhere.

One thing at a time until all the issues are resolved.

Yup, same here. Is your fuel tank in good shape?

Luckily it was under the hood and full of diesel, so besides some sediment, it's good. I didn't take it out, but emptied it and put new fuel in. The sediment bowl shows some debris in it, but that's what it's there for.
 
My new tank, even after I cleaned it, still has rust flakes. I took an old transmission pan magnet and stuck it under the tank to attract any rust.
 
She's alive! After 10 years, new fuel filters, new fuel, new battery, starter, and fuel pump and she's running smooth, but I wouldn't expect anything less from a Perkins engine. Rock solid engines.



Steering wheel been sitting out and is all cracked so it gave me a present.....I'll order a new one.

I do have a small leak at the top radiator hose, so I'll have to fix that, but the rest is holding. I'll dump it out, pull the radiator, soak some vinegar in it and flush, fix the leaking hose, and fill with 50/50.

Then onto wiring. She has to be rewired from scratch, but not a hard job just time consuming. I was using remote starter hand switch to start it.
 
I engaged the PTO yesterday and it has a pretty good leak, so I'll have to pressure wash the back, disassemble, and put in new seals.

I was testing how she would start in cooler weather (it was in the 60's yesterday) and like my other perkins engine in my bobcat, it will require the use of the single glow plug for starting when it's cooler out.

Since I'm so drawn to want to work on it I have given myself a rule that I have to accomplish work on the house (a decent amount each day) before I'll allow myself to work on the tractor.
