Ford, where quality is job zero.

Great job Ford, you suck. $29,000 for a 2017 Escape Ecoboost, a new engine at 69k miles because of a piss poor cooling design, a constant issue with emissions that I've replaced the part 5 times (cheap ass plastic tube that when it gets hot over time at 5 or 6 months it crumbles and costs like $100 each time I replace it), and now the paint is peeling. We just noticed it and it wasn't there a couple of weeks ago. Looks like a shitty job with the primer.

I wouldn't buy another new ford period. Substandard shit is all they sell.

What is scary is a new Escape is $40K!

Yeah, I wouldn't even consider buying a new ford now. I guess they think $40k cars are disposable now. You're only getting a quality vehicle if you spend over $100k, and that's about $90k too much in my book.

And I’ll bet the paint job isn’t any better, IMHO they’re making cars to last the 50K mile or whatever warranty and don’t give a Shit if it falls apart after that, I bought my 05 Express 2500 in 08 with 52K on it and it had a vinyl wrap around the whole van before I bought it which I think helped save the paint, when I bought it they had just removed the wrap within 3 yrs paint was peeling in the usual places these vans peel then rust, I had it repaired but already need it repaired again, this is a work van though and I’ll be buried in it no matter motors, trans etc., I really like the doors on both sides for tool & parts access, IMO All Mfg’ers are making them to only last 4-5 yrs if you’re lucky, Toyo? I guess I should knock some wood, Kevin my owners manual for my van even has a section about the warranty (Or No Warranty) on Paint 🤨

We bought it new and it's out of warranty (even the extended warranty), I'll touch it up for now, but its days are numbered anyways. this just adds more to the desire to get rid of it. Soon as I'm done with the house and take a few weeks off, then I'll start looking for Lisa's new used late 60's very early 70s car that I can fix the way she wants it, then I'll dump the Escape.

I will say I have never see delamination like that on an Escape. Exploreres and Mustangs with aluminum hoods corrode and blister the paint along the front lip all day log though.
We say, at Ford, quality is job none.

My Green Fusion is blistering the paint on the front of the hood from aluminum corrosion, the car has never been is salt.

It has nothing to do with salt, the fold of the metal is secured with a panel adhesive that promotes a chemical reaction similar to a galvanic corrosion, and it grows from there. Funny that the 3M Fusor panel adhesive that bodyshops use does not do this, I can only assume that what Ford buys in bulk is .02 cents less per 55 gal drum, and the bean counters demand that savings, and customer be damned.

I am activly seeking a transfer to the Cadilac store that our dealer group owns, working for Ford is eating my soul, and giving me an attitude that I do not like. We are building a new Cadillac facility that is supposed to open in October and I've extractd a promise from our regional service manager that he'll transfer me then if I'm still not happy.

I've known him for 30 years and I believe he'll try to talk me out of it, but do it in the end. Not to blow my own horn, but if I leave, there will be a hole on the service drive that will be very difficult to fill. Another advisor and I are the two top producers, he's an early '60s guy that I've also known for 30 years, and it is not uncommon for one of us to have double the gross of one of the lesser advisors.

You need to be where you're Happy, then it doesn't seem so much like work, JMO :)

I'm lucky I still like the job after over 40 years, but dealing with my current product is very difficult. I'm under no illusion that Cadillac will be a cure all, but in the past I spent 25 years with Cadilac and understand GM's processes, and will be dealing with a higher level of clientele. For example, if you are out of warranty on any GM vehicle, the dealership has the authority to cover something for another 24/24 under goodwill without consulting anyone. No such thing exists at Ford. If you come in with an issue at 36,100 miles, you are SOL, and because the Ford Pass app reports to Ford, I can't just put 35,987 miles on the RO and expect it to slide by like I might have in the past. There is a lot more, but that's a big one.

I do not miss the service desk, was very stressful and not rewarding. The dealer did not care about service, at that time our lane and service department was not air conditioned and barely heated, technicians were rude and so were many customers.
I knew the Ford Pass app was for warranty tracking, funny how it quits working soon after the car is out of warranty.
I got a letter wanting me to update my Sync maps for $199. Google Maps and Android Auto is free.

Ford tried to push the sync app on us and I told them I didn't want it. They said it reminds me when to change the oil and for service. I told them I did the service and they got bug eyed and said to install the app anyways it'll help and I told them no. Then the manager came over and asked what the problem was and the sales guy told him I didn't want the app and the manager looks at me and says all new cars come with the app and you must install it. I told him to fuck off and keep the car, then his tune changed. I told him in no terms would I allow Ford to track anything I did and I do all my own service. Then came the push for all the extra shit so I told Lisa let's go and that freaked them out. I said I'll buy the car, nothing more, and if they tried to sell anything else I was walking. I told them to finish the paperwork in 10 minutes or we'd walk. They got it done. Never went back there again.

Never bought a new car in my life, only tried once, but the dealer salesmen literally would not even talk to me.
Seems I have not missed out on anything.

My dealer did not care if I installed it or not, didn't even mention it. It really didn't do anything I needed so I uninstalled it fairly quickly.

When we bought the new 2020 RAV4 we dealt with a salesman (we had an internet price already locked in) then when it came time to pay (cash) we had to deal with a manager and he was pushing Extended this and that BS and I said “Well Toyotas a good car Right? So why do we need this?” He started the sales pitch shit and I said No to all the extra $$ warranty shit, warranty for IIRC circuit boards etc, Tax Tag etc under $25K out the door with a new Toyo 👍 and 20 yrs ago I would never have thought about buying anything other than Big 3

I've been buying all our new vehicles at the same out of town Chevy/GM dealer since 1982, 70 miles from home. Always dealt directly with the dealership owner. No trades, all cash. He knew I wanted the best price first and was no BS and did my homework. He treated me well on price and didn't try to push any extras. Wham bam, thank you mam, out the door. I usually ordered them equipped the exact way I wanted and he obliged. Kept me updated on the build status, etc. Unfortunately he is in his 80's now and sold a good portion of the dealership ownership. He's still somewhat involved in the daily dealership activities but sadly it's all coming to an end for my good experiences there. The last couple times he's handed me off to a salesman who was pretty typical. Probably next time it will be like any other dealership. Too bad for me.

When we bought our 09 Ram new Cash was King and we got a disco, when we bought the 2020 RAV4 new they didn't even want Cash so No disco's, we could've got a disco if we'd financed and they wanted us to do that but I said "No, we're leaving here owning the car" we should've financed through Toyo, got the disco then paid off at the 1st payment

That is the game, they get extra $$ for selling financing. They do not ever believe someone will pay off the loan so when you do so in the first payment the dealership is dinged by the finance company. If you do this make sure the title at the dealership has been processed though the DMV and you have a registration in hand. I would actually wait until the finance company receives the title with the lien on it from the DMV then pay the loan off, paying it off to fast may result in a lost title.

IF the dealer is offering an insanely cheap finance cost (like a 0%) I would consider using their money.
