I love to compare Ford and Chevy Big Block cars

I absolutely love Big Block Chevys. But I admire the others like the 428 Cobra Jet (isn't that a great name?) and the Chrysler Hemi (which I think is WAY overated).
Here is a great video of a stock 68 Mustang 428 Cobra jet which ran a 13.6 1/4 mile @ 100 mph on skinny bias ply tires.
I could watch "mostly stock" 60's muscle cars drag race all day . I lose interest the more mods they get.

I had a 68 428CJ, put it in a 68 F-100 SB with a 3 on the tree then a 4 spd, Badd Ass engine, I pulled it out of a JY 68 Galaxie 500 vert that was rear ended, friend that owned the JY said it was a real good running 390, what the fender emblems said anyway lol

GM refused to put a 427 in the Camaro because they didn't want anything to be faster than the Vette.
A friend on Team Camaro, Fred Ficarra, bought his 69 Camaro L78 396 brand new.
One year later he had yanked that engine and installed a 427. It was a beautiful car and ran 10's !
That's Fred on the left.

Yen Lo, Motion etc got it Right 👍🙂 I swear I’m ready to give this iPhone a Swift Kick In The Ass, I wrote Yenko, I often wondered if the original owner of that Galaxie had the 428 dealer installed or if some other owner or maybe he swapped it? it didn’t look modified just stock rag top looking but I bet it surprised a lot of people, I know I sure surprised a bunch with that old truck with stock hubcaps lol

A little outside of the true muscle car, but both these I'd like to have and hold.

Both are bargains imo.

A 429 and 428 would really wake up with a modern roller cam and a little head work :)

I had a '73 ranchero back in '83 and it was a dog with the 302, but at the time it was just a DD when I was in the service. Had a bench seat and didn't lend well when you had kids. I dumped it and bought a new car, an '84 Ford Escort and that was a bigger pile. I was shipped overseas so I figured I'd get a new car for my wife at the time (soon to be my ex) so she'd have something easy and new to drive with my son.

One of my first cars was a 64 T-bird, faded dark green paint looked black, fender skirts and Cream Landau top with chrome bars, 390 4 bbl and 1st C6 trans swap by myself on a sheet of plywood in my dads yard, Gfriend Loved the rounded back seat

IIRC Ford FE BB's came from the factory with shaft rockers, also IIRC the 351 Cleveland head was more like a BBC head I had a 70 Mach 1 351C 4V 4 spd but never had the VC's off and beat on that car pretty hard

This 1960 Ranchero is close to me. How is it that some people can't take pictures in focus ?

Here's a 64 TBird with nothing wrong for less than 20k !

These guys have a way of twisting my interest. I'd probably be looking at that '60 Ranchero if it was close.......

In the late 60's early 70's my uncle Jimmy had an early 60's Falcon Vert Black/Black/Black that he put an Econoline straight axle, 390 & 4 spd in, street raced and raced at Edgewater drag strip, thing sat way up in the air

I've always been a Chevy guy, but my first job in Sarasota, FL when I wad 16 was at a Ford Dealership who just happened to also be a Shelby Dealer! So, I witnessed new Cobras and Shelby Mustangs come into and out of the shop! I remember drooling prolifically. I was also at the Daytona 500 in both 1963 & 1966, '63 being when Chevrolet's "Mystery Engine" debued!...The Mark IV Big Block! A neighbor friend's older brother had a '66 Shelby Mustang in that gorgeous blue with white stripes (just the opposite of the common white with blue stripes). Later, after moving to Illinois, I bought my new '67 Chevelle L78 and Danville, being a small town, it was like tooling around on weekends & weeknights while in High School similar to "American Graffiti" I believe most car people in town recognized my car as being the one to not want to drag race! LOL! It was very fast for sure. I didn't race it all that much, but I never lost either....Road Runners were no trouble but I did worry a bit about matching up with a '69 Mustang 429!...fortunately one never showed up. I always heard that to change spark plugs you had to loosen a motor mount and lift the block to gain access to change plugs! It was a tight fit for sure! Those 429 Mustangs are basically unobtainium these days!

I also prefer not having the distributor in the front like on Fords, although I'm sure it was easier to change points & condenser on Ford V8's over Chevies! My brother-in-laws Father's '65 Ford T-Bird had a 390 automatic and it was a cool luxury car, but I always thought it was weird how the battery location in the passenger side front corner of the engine bay was "angled". But again, for messing with a heavy battery that was convenient I suppose.

By the way, my 2nd job before being employed by GM was at the local Chevrolet Dealer where I had ordered my Chevelle! I loved that job in the Parts Dept....I did inventory and knew all the part numbers of everything! (y)

The picture of that Thunderbird on Facebook reminds me of my BIL's, and the weird theft control associated with those cars! His had a steering wheel that would pop out of position when exiting the car, and as I recall the car wouldn't start unless I pulled up on the shift lever on the steering column while turning the key in the ignition. If just turning the key without doing that it wouldn't turn over. No way anyone could steal that car, even with a key! Ha! I believe something was amiss with the steering column or the shifter arm. Those T-Birds though had really cool art-deco interiors!

The T-birds and the Riviera and the earlier grand prix were all designed to give the 2 front passengers the best compromise between sport and luxury....and the look and feel were neverr to be duplicated.
My first car, a '67 cougar had the tilt-away steering wheel and honestly meant nothing to me as a 16 year old. I was more interested in raw hot rod performance, which never happened as it it was punched from the rear by someone finding stations on his radio while I waited at a stoplight. Miss that car, it was ivy gold inside and out....beautiful.
