Anyone watching Barrett-Jackson right now?

I admit to being an addict....been watching Mecum & B-J for decades! I just saw a real nice '67 SS Tribute 454 sell for $55,000! Nice black on black example. That's strong money however for a non-138 non-matching numbers car imo. But some buyers could care less about originality, repop parts, etc.

I had seen a frame off restored '67 Marina Blue SS (138 car) not sell for $85,000 last summer ('23), so the seller tried selling it at Mecum Kissimmee in Jan '24 and it sold for "less"...+/-$84,000! Nice car, 4-speed, bucket seats, black interior. Seller should have taken the $85k in Harrisburg! Ha! Probably the right price range for the car.

I also entered the Fantasy Bid competition, so it will be fun to see how far off I am from actual selling prices of the 12 cars selected by B-J. ;)

Watching Barret Jackson and Mecum is nothing but a tease for me. I like looking at the cars, but I couldn't afford the place mats under the cars. :ROFLMAO:

I don't know Kevin, I'm really surprised sometimes at how reasonable some cars sell for...I've seen some really nice cars sell in the mid $30's today! Yes, it can also get crazy but it's still fun to watch.

Agree. Most of the reasonably priced cars are the less popular Buick-Olds-Pontiac models.
I've seen some great cars sell for what I'm sure the owner lost a lot of money on.
Seems like Chevelles are sky-high now. Things like TKX 5 speeds and vintage air definitely add a lot of value.

I’ve seen some really nice early Fords in great condition sell for 20’s & 30’s....as the week progresses the high value cars will be crossing the block and that’s when I agree with what Kevin said! It’s just crazy $$$! I really am not a “custom” person...stock like it came off the line is my favorite and that is where I feel most of us are when checking true value of our cars. Small mods are fine of course but total transformations with LS Engine, etc isn’t where I’m at! People who are younger and have zero appreciation for these cars when stock will never understand! This is why I enjoy watching auctions! It really keeps me price-wise in the current market.

I am with you 100%!!!!

Well it’s Saturday, so it’s crazy time for auction car values! Best adjective to describe it is “insane”!

I’ve enjoyed playing Fantasy Bid, but next time I will take a close look at the cars on the B-J website before making my guess!

I was very close on several, and way off on more but I was in the top 300 bidders!

One thing I learned, if the car is a custom build regardless of what kind of car, the price doubles, triples, or more times higher than what an average car guy would guess! It’s obvious to me that money means absolutely nothing to a whole lot of people!

The ‘67 Corvette convertible custom that sold for $1,000,000 is a case in point! Just Plain CRAZY!!!!

I believe that '67 vette was an L88 and had some significance beyond that even, so not hard to believe at all. I do agree with you that there are magnets that draw the very wealthy and the wanna bees and these auctions are a huge magnet. I've seen plenty of selfy videos of prominent car builders that dress themselves to the hilt, then parade themselves and their ladies around for the weekend. IMO, it's an ugly part of our hobby, but it goes with the territory I suppose. I'm sure not all, if any on here, share that viewpoint, but I see the backside of these stories and the "little" people that have propped these types up, and it leaves a sour taste. I can real off dozens of names that routinely have cars down there, and I have little good to say about any of them. Beyond that, the cars are for the most part, spectacular, and some have pedigree to those heros that we had growing up as young gearheads.

I just saw on my Fantasy Bid tally that I am No. 127....not too bad, but the last two cars I went way low, so likely no more points. It was fun anyway!

I finished up placing 208th with 1424 points! I had 5 bids that didn't warrant any points, or "0". 12 bids in all. This will be a running total for all the B-J Auctions this year, so I'll have to see how this goes as I fine tune my projections! (y)
