Ben Shapiro Pissed Me Off

I had to work late last night alone in the office and I was streaming talk radio. Sometimes I listen to Ben Shapiro but I think I am done with him.

He basically said no one should retire and his comments have lit up the Internet.

“And let's be real about this — it's insane that we haven't raised the retirement age in the United States. It's totally crazy. Joe Biden — if that were the case, Joe Biden should not be running for president. Okay? Joe Biden is 81 years old. The retirement age in the United States, at which you start to receive Social Security and you are eligible for Medicare, is 65. Joe Biden has technically been eligible for Social Security and Medicare for 16 years, and he wants to continue in office until he is 86, which is 19 years past when he would be eligible for retirement. No one in the United States should be retiring at 65 years old. Frankly, I think retirement itself is a stupid idea unless you have some sort of health problem.”

“But put all of that aside, just on a fiscal level and on a logical level, when Franklin Delano Roosevelt established 65 as the retirement age, the average life expectancy in the United States was 63 years old. Today, the average life expectancy in the United States is close to 80. It's totally insane that you believe that you should be able to work from the time that you are essentially 20 to the time that you are 65 — which is a 45 year period — pay in, and then you'll receive Social Security benefits sufficient to support you and your family, you and your wife or whatever, for, like, another 20 years. That's crazy talk. That is not fiscally sustainable. The notion that if you have to raise the retirement age to 67 or 68, that everyone is gonna fall apart — my parents are that age. My parents are not retired, and they shouldn't retire. It would be very bad for them to retire.”

“By the way, it's disrespectful to people who are 67, 68, 69 years old to suggest that they are in the same shape as people who are 65 — were in 1940. It's not true at all. Have you met a 65-year-old lately? Sixty-five-year-olds are not old in the United States. They're not. Sixty-eight-year-olds are not old in the United States. Again, Joe Biden thinks he's not old, and that dude is running for president again, and that dude actually is old, and he's 81. I fail to see how a country in which our entire leadership class is 80-plus is telling you that we should have a retirement age of 65. It makes no sense at all.”

Here is one post:

Fuck that guy!!! Apparently he’s Never met someone that’s a Tradesman, building homes etc takes its toll on a body, I’ve been working since 13 yrs old part time, full time at 15 doing appliance repair, electrical, construction work and if I didn’t own my own business I’d retire next year at 65, my Neck & Back Dr gets a Good chunk of my $$$ for co pays

That's about as extreme as I've heard from him and I don't agree with him. Of course he can say that because of what he does for work and has probably never worked a hard labor job in his life. When you go home at the end of the day physically exhausted and keep pushing your body year after year, as you get older you physically can't do it anymore, and that's what retirement is for. You've paid your dues, now let the young guns pay their dues.

I figure a person should be able to retire whenever they feel like, whenever they can afford it.
I got some flack from a few people when I went at 59.
A guy I worked with went at 52 but he didn't really retire as he still has a fairly big farm to run, he just got out of the rat race.

SS was never supposed to BE our entire retirement.
But with the predatory taxation policies and inflation since WW II savings have become impossible for too many.

Unless you planned for retirement with savings and investments, it's impossible to live off SS. My Dad retired from a state job at 59, my younger brother (by one year) retired at 58 and now runs his own farm, and I "semi" retired after Lisa had her brain surgery at 59 but had planned to work until 65. I have a residual income and don't need to work, but I'm a workaholic and love to work..... on my own stuff now. Life is too short and the sooner you can get out of the rat race the better for your health and sanity. I'm busier now than when I was working and wouldn't change a thing.

I'm out of the rat race at 59 1/2. I haven't told anyone at work. I'm just going to give them a 2 week notice to be fair & go out with some dignity. I have a good chunk in savings and have done IRA's since I was 18years old.
I'm going to get a job w/ good health insurance. I have a plan. I actually like to work, but it won't be welding anything.

We had 3 pensions, or 2 pensions and an IRA, allowing a pretty good retirement at 35 yrs service. That isn't doable for those that joined our union even 7 or 8 years behind me. SS is just a bit of icing on the cake. I'm like you Kevin, in that I have no problem working, but differ because I was working for a company, and it didn't much matter the company, all of them had succumbed to the insurance driven slowdown tactics that didn't allow an overachieving band of construction workers to do what they do. We were under heavy constraints that mandated at least 2 hours out of each day "planning" and "proving" our every move. This allowed a lesser achieving group to become watchdogs over the rest, sort of a snitch approach. Can't count how many times I was either called in to justify a procedure, and then eyes were everywhere. Anyway, I still love the work, and the people I worked around as long as I got to pick them. I'm a couple years away from SS benefits, but I'm grabbing them as soon as I can.

If the morons in Washington don’t get the spending under control, the dollar isn’t going to be worth the paper it’s printed on. I’m afraid rough days are ahead. A trillion going to the debt every 100 days is unsustainable. I don’t understand their thinking. Is it out of stupidity or is it intentional.

We got Kathy on early SS since she has a cancer that’s not curable and may not be around at 65 but has worked and paid in since she was 18, we think it’s only fair she gets some back, $1,000 a month for her is $ to do whatever she wants with, mostly goes to Gkids gifts

I'll apply for SS in 11 months. Doing the calculations I'd collect way more over time and like Jerry called it icing on the cake, I call it piss money to spend on whatever (probably lots of car parts). Truthfully I'm surprised SS is still solvent at this point. I figured it'd be all dried up by now with the overspending of the fuckwads in Congress. Bet if you clipped their salary you'd see some changes on spending and SS benefits. Luckily I served so I get health benefits for life. Since Lisa works at the county level (she was bored out of her mind while I've been building our place), she gets great health benefits and will even get a retirement package, and it keeps her mind sharp and from turning to mush from lack of activity. She's a few years younger than me so it's all good.

That's kind of like I did it, I had our work schedule out & xing off days a coworker saw it & figured it out.

I wrote off Mr Shapiro a while back when he made it clear he didn't like Trump.
He also got into a fight with Candace Owens when it was clear she was right.
And then he was all-in on a war with Russia.
He is definitely out-of-touch with the working class.
