Bad float on fuel sender?

Gas gauge reads zero with about 2 gallons of gas. I haven’t filled it up yet.

Unplugged the sender at the harness, gauge goes to full. Ground the car end of the plug, gauge goes to zero.

Iirc that’s what it would do if the sender is good, yet still reads zero. Bad float perhaps?

Have you had the tank out and did you replace the sender? I replaced the sender (after market) and after one week it went to empty and stayed there. Dropped the tank and the float had broken off. Couldn't reattach it so I had to buy another. I bought better quality and it's still good now, but that was like 5 or 6 years ago.

I reused the old one which had been working fine. I took it out today and the float works fine but testing it with the ohm meter I found it was functioning intermittently, so I ordered a replacement

Try a little more gas and see if it shows on the gauge

I guess I got lucky, I bought a new tank & sending unit from NPD 12-13 yrs ago and haven’t had any problems……….where’s some Wood to Knock

I've had great luck cleaning those old senders, reassembling and reusing. I really don't trust new stuff.

I‘ll look at it, but if it’s not the original to the car it’s from the same era.

Strainer on the intake just crumbled in my hands. I think it’s time
