Building Our Barndominium

Dad and Mom had one of those with the locking latch handle. Mom thought she heard funny noises coming from it and convinced my Dad to buy her a new one. They gave it away to a friend so he could use it in his garage. Last time I was in CT and stopped in to say hi, that fridge was still running and working just fine. He said he's been offered $750 for it, but he refuses because he said he'd feel guilty selling what we gave him, and he said it just works great.

Remember when a lot of people called their refrigerator the “Frigidaire” ? But I’m pretty sure Carrier came up with refrigeration

I wish I had my Great Gmoms wooden Ice Box, SS lined double door, I don’t know what wood but what a neat conversation piece that’d be

Damn Kevin didn’t mean to get off track about that fridge swelling, any warranty?

Not off track, it's all good. There is a warranty, and even an extended warranty, but that's in regards to it running and keeping food cold or frozen. Since I'm giving the fridge to my brother and getting a fridge better suited for traffic. He'll get the fridge and I get more beef.

There's a water dispenser heater?? I bet that's why my dispenser hasn't worked in years. That's got to in the door right?

I had never heard of that, only thing I know of is the hot loop to evaporate the drain water instead of the pull out pan from the 60-70’s lol, I’ve been out of appliance repair a long time 😆

What can I say, it's been a hell of a ride and I'm tired, BUT, we got the door blower test done this morning where we scored a 3.1 (3.0 being perfect) and final inspection today and passed with flying colors. The inspector spent more time looking at all the details he noticed and was pointing them out to me. Of course when someone else in the building trade recognizes the level and quality of work that went into building you feel a great deal of pride, and I did. I still got it, but this is the last one. I'm too tired and too old to do it again.

We'll get the official Certificate of Occupancy later today, and I'll start moving furniture in tomorrow.

Never heard of that check.....must be a manometer check? Sounds like everything's square, sealed and detailed to the n'th degree.....very nice. You obviously have a no-smoking in the house clause in your marriage lol.

Manometer check is not the same. Here's a quick and dirty explanation.

Lisa and I made an agreement from the day we started dating that I would never smoke in the house, and that's been honored since day 1. I only smoke outside, truck, or in the shop. It keeps her (and the kids) healthy, and the house doesn't reek of bad odors. Good all the way around.

Mine was probably tight when first built but too many picture hangers on the walls, probably poked a lot of holes in the vapor barrier.
