Building Our Barndominium

My parents well is 375' and the pump died.... guess who pulled it out by hand? I was 30 when I replaced their pump.... couldn't do that now without equipment. It was a MF.
The pump and my 2nd floor A/C units are the oldest mechanical items in the house. I will leave the pump to the pros.

Had my well pump the 100 ft. one changed a couple years ago, the well guy did it in little over an hour.

Here are the final plans for build out of the living space. Waiting for the site specific plans for the steel building for Risk II Catagory building (good for 180mph winds), then I can submit for permitting.

Had to buy a new generator this morning, my other one couldn't start the well pump, but she's running now to clear up after the drilling because we'll start using it next week when move onto the property with our motorhome. Well is filling a 5 gallon bucket every 8 to 10 seconds.... Great flow and volume.

By hand he had a arch that clamped on the casing & once out a ways he just walked with it.
Similar to this.

Yep, I didn't have that (let alone knew it existed), so I did the whole thing right over the top of the well and my Dad walked it down the driveway, and then back up.

Stage 1 of moving, complete. The house is 7/8 empty and in 2 storage containers. Now on our way back to the house to grab food and our motorhome and drive back up to Chiefland and call it a day. I'm beat.

Thank God for young bloods. No damn way I could have moved all my stuff. This is the third time we've used this mover and they do a top notch job.

Well, it's been some time since the last update, so here goes.

Been a bunch of issues to deal with. Pulled the 12v solar system out of the battle cruiser and installed a 48v system and that fixed most of the issues we were having with the main one being not able to run the 220v ducted mini spit system. Based on what I can tell, the mini spit systems are very sensitive to balanced power legs (power coming from the inverters was off by 1 volt meaning 1 inverter was 1v less all the time) so running the 2 individual 4k watt inverters was an exercise in futility. No matter what I did I couldn't get it to balance so the ducted minisplit would error out after 5 minutes and refuse to run. I have a fix for the 12v solar system that will solve that problem, but that'll happen after we finish moving.

The house is still being emptied and cleaned, but we ran out of space in the two (2) 20' storage containers, so I had to buy another one which is being delivered this morning. So far it's been just shy for $10k for three (3) 20' storage containers ($9,900). After it's delivered we'll go back down to the house to prepare to move the ditch witch and the Chevelle, but I need the ditch witch too pull the solar mounts out of the ground. Got the big chest freezer running in the steel container and will power up the 2 dehumidifiers today. Since we bought a 3rd container, I'll have to buy another dehumidifier.

Onto another big issue we're dealing with. We have iron in the well water that started staining the sink, and I could taste it already, so we knew we'd have to deal with it. We're buying a iron filter capable of removing 27 ppm of iron and then will follow that up with a water softener. We have very hard water which is at 22 ppm. The iron is at 7.5 ppm. So the additional setup is going to be about $3k to get the water were we want it (ultra clean drinking water).

We have the finalized signed and sealed prints for the living quarters, but we're still waiting on the site specific engineered steel building prints, so until we have those we can't pull the permit to start building.

Lisa and I celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary yesterday, so we went out to eat at a local restaurant and had a nice quiet night. We've been together for 35 years and married for 33 of them, and God blessed me with the best friend and partner I could have ever wished for.

Congratulations to you and Lisa, you two are a great couple!

I wish I was closer to help you with all of your issues, I know you are worn out. Hang in there my friend.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY !!!! you should get a Brown out/Surge arrestor for your mini split, can't think of a really good one now but will post a model number Monday

Congrats on the anniversary Kevin. Nothing like being married to a good woman.

If you haven't considered it, try to get a reverse osmosis water purifier in the kitchen. I love the water out of ours. I'd rather drink it than most bottled waters.

When you're married to the right woman, nothing compares. She's always been the best part of me.

In regards to the water, we haven't gotten that far yet, just trying to get good water for starters.

Great thread ! Are you considering a mini-split heat pump for the barndominium ?
I only paid $3000 for a Mr Cool DIY 36k (18 seer) to connect to solar.

We're going to install 4 minisplits. They will be 21 seer or better. The minisplit in the battle cruiser sips power and at full draw only pulls about 350 watts to 400 watts and it's a 1 ton unit.

Even with 4 units running at full hilt, it's still 1,000 watts less than a conventional A/C heat pump system. We plan on running full time on solar (as we already are in BABs), even though we're required to be hooked into line power to get a CO.

I had two "dual-zone" units in my previous house. I think they were 20 seer LG's. 9k+9k and a 9K+12k.
Ran them 10 years with no problems.
