What’d you work on today?

I went to school to become a machinist (trade school when I was 14), and I learned how to machine anything I wanted and the teacher was really cool and let me make parts all the time (as long as I got my school project done on time).

I wish I had a lathe, bridgeport, shaper, and surface grinder and I could make damn near anything I needed. The machines I learned on were just as CNC was starting, but all the machines I learned on were all manual.

In the 70's working for my dads appliance repair shop we removed and replaced spin tube bronze bushing called bearings by knocking the old bushings out with an old agitator shaft out of a washer transmission then tapping the new bushings in with some thing else that I cant remember now but left over something or other then he bought the expensive tool for doing that job, I still remember asking him Why he bought that tool? He said well its the right tool for for pulling the bearings and putting the new ones in and I remember asking him if all the other ones we did will go bad because we didnt have that tool? He said No they're all ok... I was kind of lost on all that at the time because it didnt really make any sense to me buying the tool lol

Used the old chainsaw today to cut up a downed tree from Ian then used the tractor and garden coat to move the wood for storage.

Working on the ditch witch.... the 6 way dozer blade blew a hydraulic hose and seeing how they were original to the machine, I decided to replace all of them (for the dozer blade). I already replaced all the hoses for the bucket.

It's only money, and you can't take it with you. I look at it this way, if it saves time and stops me from overexerting myself, it's worth it.
Agreed. Spent a lot of money on my plow, recently had cylinder fixed, I may not use it all of the time but it is great weight on the front.

Is that the Loaner Ditch Witch? I had that happen at my friends shop that finished my body work, up and down numerous times over the 2 or so months my car was there and overhead hose blew so I replaced it with a new hose rather than just a repair, he appreciated it and still lets me use the lift whenever I need it as long as I'm not interfering with his work

Yep, that's my ditch witch. Just got back from getting hoses made at NAPA and the bill came to $322 and I said, "Whoa!", and the nice lady behind the counter said, "That ain't right for a nice guy like you" and I said, "I hope I can pay you with my kidney", she started laughing and punched in a code and they bill dropped to $182 and she said that's way better, and I said, "Yes ma'am" and she said next time you come in, you see me and I'll take care of you. I said thanks, and gave her a hug.

Yeah, up here people are really nice. Gas here is cheaper than where we lived in Weeki Wachee by almost $.20 a gallon. So damn glad we moved here, and Lisa is loving how quiet it is and how nice all the neighbors are. Almost every one of them has stopped to introduce themselves and told us if we need anything or help just ask. They said everybody helps everybody. Nice people.

Kevin it really sounds like it hasn't changed since I was there working in the 90's, real Mayberry and I do mean that in a very good way, some friends and acquaintances have retired and moved to North Fl to get away from the craziness of big city St Pete Lib BS and are very happy they did

Worked on cleaning out an old building that wants to fall down. Nothing interesting in it, mainly junk. Not done yet, have another couple of hours work. Need to make a trash run to empty the first full trash cans.
