What’d you work on today?

Beth, its one of these, '68-'70 used it before they went to the one you show, which in those years was common to either disc or drum. This hold off, or delay valve is a disc only part. There is a button on the back that must be depressed to bleed the fronts, and I forgot about it. A line comes form the front port of the master cylinder to the inlet on the front with the hex, and another line come from the side to the distribution block on the frame.

May have to look into that 4L80E OD, or whatever he was talking about.
Arthritis hit me like a sledge hammer yesterday, I am definitely going to have to cut down the number of projects.
Hope is that this second El Camino is fairly simple to reassemble, no heavy fabrication or rust repairs.

What about a Buick 231 V6 and 200r4 trans?

I think you’re correct, 20 yrs ago my friend was a mechanic for a cab company and I remember being at his shop once looking under the hood at a V8
You and Jonathan are correct ! I thought it was a V6 but it's a V8. It's still the best daily driver value IMHO

I was at the dealerships when the 92 CVs were released in 91. Local city purchased 200 of them (police units) and our small dealership was packed, we drove them 30 miles and dropped them off at the city yard. They were night and day compared to their older counter parts.

You guys are not understanding how badly I despise the new nanny-state multi computer no road feel junk.
HAS to also be an El Camino or 55-57 Ranchero, and anything 50's is insanely priced.
Second EC probably will not happen, in which case I have decided that I will likely be looking for a second engine and headers for mine.
Tame engine for DD, then swap it out for play days.
The Buick V6 idea is actually interesting as I have a few of those and parts, but if I used the parts I have it would still not get more than 20 MPG.
There was a decent chance one of the Buicks would end up in the Morris Minor, no problem getting over the mountains in that case!
Seeing a specialist soon, expecting another Cortisone shot.
Diminishing effectiveness for those, feeling like I am running out of time.

Since you already have a Buick V6 dropping that in your Elky is what Id be doing, you have Any trans you could use for now till you get an OD trans? Id be more interested in getting the Elky road worthy then change tranny unless it means too much $$ for a conv and DS just meant for a 3 speed auto, I dont remember were you planning for a manual or auto trans for the Elky?

Messing with old cars for a daily driver is not compatible with good gas mileage and saving money. JMHO
You're killing yourself with too much to do. Just trying to help.
Our family has a 2006 Lincoln with this engine/trans; it's a 2006 and all that's ever been done is to change the oil.

Kathys ex told me yesterday he has a 92 Escort wagon he bought for $500 and gets great mpg then told me its in the 2nd shop in 6 months and he has $12K+ in it now 😳 Id find a cheap (if thats even possible these days) Yota or Nissan or whatever flavor pick up and run it till it dies then rinse & repeat if you just need a cheap parts hauler, or put the V6 you already have and any trans to get the Elky running if thats All it Needs is a drive train, JMO EDIT if the Elky still needs lots of work like dual MC??? or more custom things Id forget about making the Elky a DD parts hauler and go with a cheap pick up that doesnt need things, you dont need a project DD

Old front wheel drive cars are a disaster unless they have a manual trans, which most do not.
A FWD automatic is usually toast at 200k miles.
The Crown Vic/Marquis are the only rear wheel drive cars left ? Of course they stopped production in 2012 ?

Already have a 97 T-Bird V6 that can be used as a DD.
Only computer car in the fleet.
It sucks for trying to haul anything larger than a bread-box.
Also cannot stretch out to sleep in the trunk on a long trip like the El Camino. ;)
Current El Camino gets a Muncie and GV OD.
It would be nearly finished if I were not also putting in a Jag IRS and 'Glass front clip.
Could be a runner this fall?
But only IF I can get my shoulders to recover soon.

I have feeBay auctions ending tomorrow and more a week later.
Those will determine my immediate funding.
First priority is getting the VMC so that I may try to set up a steady income that is not dependent on heavy labor.
Every time I set up for one goal I get distractions thrown at me, this time the 69 Elky.
I may have just enough funding to squeeze both purchases.
The 69 could get a Buick V6 and the T5 I already have IF that would still be enough power to cross the Sierra Mountains?
Was also hoping it might handle some light towing.
I do not own any automatic trans but they can be found.
As said, a buddy is pushing me to use some alphabet heavy six-speed OD he knows of on the cheap.
Not sure a 3.8 carb V6 could pull it?

I hate waiting on auctions ending!

Use what you already have on hand and as much of it, unless you’re hauling 5K pounds I think youd be fine with the engine & trans you have

And going over mountains towing I think I'd rather have a manual trans, if auto a 4L80 but then you need a controller = $, I have a 4L60 in my '05 Chevy Express 2500 with a 4.8 V8 and 173K on the clock and the trans works great, has a button on the dash for "Tow" and I've towed some heavy a/c equipment with the van fully loaded so maybe a 4L60 would be another choice for auto, But I'd still be using what you already have

There is also an era of computerized cars, some are not that bad to work on. The early OBD1s sucked, 1980 to 1995. Stupid things got the CEL and you could hardly figure them out. The 1996 to 2009/2010s are not that bad to work on, finding errors makes sense, just can't fix the first code, all have to be looked at to find a common problem. Something as simple as a manifold donut gasket leak will cause rich codes and HEGO codes.

What really gets me is everything has a module down to stupid little stuff. The modern day car will become a junk yard piece because some module is unavailable and discontinued. I have cars that finding parts for is getting harder but haven't been skunked yet and yes, some parts have been expensive because they are becoming rare.

We are running into this at the dealership level all the time. Anything over 10-12 years old, model specific PCMs, BCMs, ABS modules and such are no longer available. We don't touch used electronics at all, no matter how much someone begs.

I have my eye on my Father-in-law's 2006 Lincoln. He passed away 2 months ago at 93.
His Lincoln has 67k miles. Always garaged. Zero rust or dings/dents. Interior like new. It's the same as a Grand Marquis/Crown Vic.
Those engines are even easy to work on (rear wheel drive).
If I can get it for $3500 or less, I'll buy it even though I don't need it.
