What’d you work on today?

Getting ready to walk out the door to eat and go to the grocery store the phone rings, it is the daughter, car wont start.

We changed our plans, drove to the campus, found the car in the parking garage, turned the key, clicks from the starter. Battery. I cleaned the + terminal, tried to start, same thing. Went to pull the battery out, negative wire terminal end broke. I removed the air box and with my cheap Hobo Freight kit's ratchet broke the bolt free. We too the battery and cable to the store. $170 for a battery at OReillys!!! I bought a terminal end as none of the cables would work.

Got back to the car, fixed it and everything worked, started right up. I missed having my tools with me but was very glad I had a small kit.

Went to buy a battery for the MF and had the same price as you at O'Reilly's ($170), but at wally world it was $140 with a 3 year warranty.

1996 Ferd Blunderbird 3.8.
No. 5 fuel injector has been dead as long as we have had the car.
Whoever came up with the idea of covering one bank of a V6 engine with the intake plenum should be flayed alive.
PITA to remove and to replace.
And or course being nearly thirty years old all of the special vacuum hoses snap off.
I have to stop working on this sort of scrapyard refugees, they infuriate me and I have no one to care for me if I stroke out!
Surprised the headgaskets are not blown,.

I know, I was in a pinch. I rarely shop at those non discount auto stores now. I have a small shop I buy my batteries from but being a Friday night...

Daughter is home for the summer this week, the poor Vibe can get much needed maintenance and love.

Time to teach her automotive maintenance. I taught all my kids routine maintenance when we got them their first car and told them it was their responsibility.

All my kids (including the girls) can change their oil, change tires, check air pressure, check the oil, replace the battery, jump start, replace wiper blades, replace fuses, replace headlight and bulbs, and clean their cars properly.

She may have an interest but she leans more towards woodworking, not my forte. I gave both kids the opportunity to learn, even bought my gold Chevelle as a father son project then when he didn't want to do anything, daughter father project. Neither kid bit even though the reward in the end was the car becoming theirs. Computer games and other interests took over.

My son now realizes Dad was trying to teach him as he was lost jump starting his girlfriends car, well not lost, he knew what to do but did not know where the negative cable was supposed to clamp. Easy phone description.

Part of what took so long is I completely removed the cable, probably didn't have to but I wanted to try and match one up. No luck. The two negative feeds bonded at the clamp. I removed the old clamp, cleaned the bond with a wire brush and trimmed off the jagged ends. On a universal battery end I clamped the bond into the battery terminal end, no loose copper wires, worked really well. Reinstalled the cable, air box and battery.

I forced them all to learn, wasn't an option. If they were going to drive a car, they needed to know the basics. It didn't come from a point of me wanting to push it off on them, but my time on earth is short (probably shorter than most), but they needed to know so they could do it themselves and not be taken advantage of.

I am pushing my son's cars repairs off on him, he has to pay for them now and has become more inquisitive on how to do stuff.

They know what to do if something happens and not always call Dad. Tire pressures were off on the Vibe, car is super sensitive and the light came on. Daughter took it to Discount Tire, they adjusted the pressures and cut the light off, she did it on her own.

Changed the oil on the Excursion, looked for issues, found none. Vacuumed and cleaned the interior to prep for the next adventure. Going to Western PRNY (Peoples Republic of New York)

Tried to get some more brake in on the new Wilwood brakes before a 12pm work appt but it decided to rain, oh well but I did check temps on my 05 Express 2500 4 whl disc temps for a comparison and they’re very close being a little hotter on the rear 180-200 and 130-170 front so I assume it’s normal for rear disc to get hotter,,?DCD74FE7-05E0-4A4D-A9C2-2019603F6A23.jpeg

We installed a new 5 ton Grandaire split ac system in a bar 3-4 weeks ago and had to replace a leaking evap coil yesterday 🤬, been a dealer of Comfortmaker/Heil/Tempstart/Grandaire for 8 yrs and first bad evap coil, then last week we installed a split system in a condo that required a Thruwall ac unit, well the motor only runs if the front cover is off 🤬 so won’t work under any static load so client asked is it a Lemon?🤬 I said no just a bad motor and I’ll take care of, now 3rd day waiting for replacement motor, WTF this country is going to Hell

Well picked up the new replacement motor in Clearwater and drove Kathy’s RAV4 then came home loaded the motor in my van and drove to Treasure Island, carried a step ladder up to 2nd floor got motor and tools then opened up the unit and new motor box…Wrong Motor 🤬 I called Johnstone supply and got the salesman I had been dealing with on this issue and asked how he ordered the wrong motor when I gave him model, serial numbers and he looked up my Purchase Order, he said Oh I’m very sorry I’ll have the Right motor here tomorrow morning, This BS is completely ridiculous and luckily the owners are still in Az and haven’t moved in yet, they’re very cool about this Cluster Fuck and that I’m very thankful but it could be very bad for me if they demanded another unit since they’ve already asked twice is it a Lemon, I offered an extra year on labor warranty to help ease this BS, Oh I was going to take that mounting plate off the motor and put it in the belly band mount but it’s not even the proper rpm so using it with the wrong pitch fan blade would burn the motor up fairly quick

I'm really tired of the "Opps, I'm sorry, I'll take care of that", like you're doing me a favor when it was you that fucked up. That happens almost all the time and not caring on the time they wasted of yours.

Guy said he’d try to get me something to help make up for it, I said how bout a check for ?$ to the home owner but I know they won’t do anything like that, just wanted him to realize he put people in an uncomfortable position WO having ac, think he’ll not make that mistake again? LOL Fn idiots, the system should’ve been up and running last week 😒

Found the real problem with the motor, I took a pic before removing the orig motor and when I installed the replacement I must have put the blade on the shaft a little lower than the guy at the factory did, motor sits on an angle, so when it started it made a Hellash sound of metal to metal for the fan blade, I pulled the power and looked at the inside of the cover and seen contact marks then looked at the blades on an angle to see they stuck out past the metal cover, so I lowered the blade on the shaft which moved it father away from the cover and it worked the way it should, mean time customer now wants me to pay Sparkys 2nd bill of $650 for moving the attic light and air handler service disco which I thought was included in the first $750 but I’m at a point we’re whatever but did tell them it was a misunderstanding and how bout we split it which they agreed, I did give them an extra 1 yr labor warranty so total of 2 yrs labor, what the hell right 😆Oh and cleaned and oiled the bath fan

I don't if people are that dyslexic or not paying attention or just stupid. Similar to when the cashier says 12.93 & you are looking at the till & it's really 12.39 or whatever. See that a lot especially with the blue & green hairs.

Borrowed a trailer and picked up a Renault 16 parts car near Reno.
Once I get the engine and trans out I hope to resell the remains to recoup some of my expense.
Tomorrow I pick up the other one.
Engine and internals from the trans are spare Lotus parts.
