New bumpers from Golden Star

These have received good reviews so I'll hold off on any opinion. OEM bumpers have some hurdles to overcome the majority of the time. Finding a good core, fitting, tweaking, and then shipping to your favorite plater.....then it's over $500 each for the plating. So you can easily have $1300 or more into them. Finding good cores is getting extremely tough.
I'd like to hear feedback after you've fit them.......

I currently have aftermarket bumpers on my car, AMD I think, but might have been Golden Star.

Reviews all said they were so much lighter than original, so I figured I'd buy them and shed a few pounds... weighed them, and they were within the 0.1 lb increment on my scale to the originals... so much for trusting people's reviews.

I do believe they are softer metal than originals, but they are not any lighter or thinner.

I had my oem bumpers rechromed. The last after markets I bought started to rust very quickly. I took them to TriCity Plating and also sold them some 69 cores. Yes, they were expensive but the fit is perfect and quality is OEM.

Were you happy with the chrome ? The new front bumper I received looks good; no complaints.

Yeah, they looked as good as any NOS originals... similar imperfections and such, not super perfect like an expensive "show chrome" job.

I bought my bumpers from NPD I think they're Golden Legion one thing I should've have done before mounting them is scuffed and painted the back side silver or black, they've been on for a cpl yrs now and look ok but I have a feeling they'll rust on the back side, keep wax on the front too

Thanks. Good advice

Thanks for the review. I’m not far enough to need bumpers yet but it’s a decision that’ll come sooner or later.
AFAIK my current bumpers are OE rechromed many years ago in San Antonio. I wasn’t super pleased even back then. The bumpers looked good but there were patches where the chrome had small bumps. Felt like a bit of sand got under the chrome (I know that’s not how it happened, just what if felt like).

From going to the Good Guys swap meets here in NorCal I think there are bumper guys out of a local town, but I don’t know if they actually rechrome of if they ship them down to SoCal.

Don't forget to spray the backside with something to help it last longer, my 1st wife worked at Florida Plating for a few yrs in the early 80's and yes EPA drove them out of business, I did have a bunch of trophy's for a bike that was decked out with beautiful chrome and anodizing on it done at her work place...for free

I agree with the Test Fitting statement, I scratched my paint since I didn't Test Fit, hell I probably would've either way since I used either my MC lift or trans lift to raise the bumpers in place to bolt them up by myself prob should've had a helper

The backside is plated but not chromed. You can see the finish on the picture showing the "Made in Taiwan" tag.
It looks like it would hold up ?
