Covid soured the tracks and the left soured the desire to keep up worrying whether or to keep "improving the car". I'm not much of a stock Chevelle kind of person and because I'm old and my spine is toast I finally pulled the plug on ownership. I never actually even got to put the car up for sale but it sold. As I watched it get trailered away today I thought, this is a freaking sad day but driving once a week to a car show just doesn't cut it for me. Prius and Tesla drivers scowling at stop lights (lmao) has ended my desire after my start from high school yearnings for more power. So the buyer got himself a pretty darn nice very bottom 10 second car which is still certified to 8.50 if he so chooses to spend some more money. I think I'll find a new hobby.

Sorry to hear. Hope you find solice in something else.
Spine problems suck.

I get that but I'm in a shithead state that hands out free money to nothing more than skin color. Anything for a vote and a handout so my head is leaning elsewhere. The old California is dead and having 15 different languages on a tract home street is less than neighborly. Don't get me wrong, I've owned the recent Chevelle for 26 solid years and have turned 99% of the nut's and bolts on the car with constant improvements. Had the covid not been brought on shore by politicians I's pretty sure I'd have squeezed a 9.40 from it but but I'll have to live with the 9.550 due to tire spin. That said, the car wasn't a dedicated race car but it was a pretty damned good compromise between something mean and nasty that I could drive to a car show and gather several folks who became pretty good friends. At 75 it's time to ease up and focus on what comes next besides my funeral lol.
It was fun as hell though to be sure. Beth, the car is going to Franklin. :)

Sorry you sold your car, but I understand. I hope you still come by the site from time to time and check in.

I wish you the best in feeling better and a new hobby.

We all face getting rid of toys every so often, look for something else to occupy your time. Sitting around doing nothing is not a good thing and an empty garage is a sad thing to look at.

I'm pretty satisfied with Old Chevelle's. This site is enjoyable and isn't run by the Gestapo left so I'll stick around a while. Chevelle's or Chevelle knockoff's such as the el Camino or the Monte Carlo have always been a part of my game. I bought a 69 Malibu Wagon with a 6 cylinder in around 1993 or so and it received the 454 th400 treatment and a 12 bolt. That car was pristine at 64k miles and ran pretty damned well. When I picked up my 66 in 1996 I put the wagon up for sale and it ended up being shipped to Japan. Those guys scored a great car. It ran very well with the modified 454 and 3.73's
I find it odd that we are on fire for this hobby from high school to the twilight years and then one day, for whatever reason, (spine pain maybe) we just make a right turn at the intersection without forethought and do something else. You guys have created the best Chevelle site on the web. I just wonder when some "monster" will offer alot of money for the site then destroy it as they did TC.

Site is not for sale nor will be, legal papers stipulate that and we have a board of directors that control it. The site is Member Owned.

That is one beautiful beast of a car. Only you know when it's time to unload, but you'll always have some great memories. Getting into the nines is no small feat....I'm familiar with quite a few cars with that capability, and have decided the investment is not for me. I'm sure the trip is available to you whenever you close your eyes, and they can never take that away.
Live the journey!!

Live with a 9.55 1/4 mile ?? WOW  :ROFLMAO: I hope to break into the 11's
The cam doesn't sound huge. Is the engine a 540+ ?

Beth, the car is going to Franklin. :)
Does the owner plan on driving it on the street ? I'll be looking for it at "Cars and Coffee" in Cool Springs next to Franklin !

Once you move (if you do) , why not buy another one ? Maybe a cruiser this time ?

Dan, you are always welcome here and YOU and the other members own this site, it'll never be for sale and will always be member owned. As Jon mentioned, the site is a non profit and not owned by any individual, it's member owned, so you have say in this site too!

Well Dan I can't imagine a person building a 9.5 second Chevelle taking up Checkers, so take some time, sit back and think about your next hobby. Riding my Harleys was one of the best things in my life but neck & back problems have had my bikes parked for over a year now, wife says sell'em but I built both ground up and been riding since the 70's but maybe it's time to let them go too, I'm sure you also had a hard time deciding to sell, anyway we talk about all kinds of things here so stick around :)

I can understand losing the desire for the hobby. I lost it for years and the car just sat. Fortunately I didn’t need the money or the space so I could afford to just let it sit. I’m enjoying it again and making slow progress at getting it back together. As much as I find enjoyment in working on the car, I’m going to enjoy more having it done and using it and having a lot of spare time for other things as well as getting back garage space currently occupied by parts.

Correct me if I’m wrong but show car standards and high HP can make it hard to stay interested. Show cars are great but other than shows, you don’t feel that you can use the car and spending you time polishing nuts gets old after a while. High HP is expensive, often temperamental and might be less enjoyable on the the street.

I’m beginning to think the 4 door guys are on to something. Cheaper, less attention (which I think of as a good thing), dont have to be so precious with it and drive it anywhere, etc.

Beth, the engine in the car is currently a 499 incher. The cam is 264@ .050 with a lift in the mid ^ .600's
It's 10.9 compression and on it's first outing with this engine ran a 6.44 1/8th mile @ 105 which is roughly a 10.11 1/4 mile. If you end up at a car show with that car there say hello to Zach, the buyer. He's a good man.
The 9.550 was with the 565 which is 900.7 hp and 759lbft. I have that piece and plan to sell it as well. It's a nice off the mainstream Big Block build. Keep in mind this was on a M/T 28x10.50 tire

Nicely thought-out combo ! The fact that you ran mid-9's on that 10.5" tire is why I tell people not to install mini-tubs.
It's just not smart on such a classic IMHO. You can go plenty fast without wide tires.
I'll be looking for Zach as I plan to get out more to Cars and Coffee next year.
And you need to stick around for war updates and sick jokes LOL

I had a 69 4 door, it was a fun car but people looked down on it, IDK why but more doors need love too.

I never have had a desire for a high performance engine, closest I came was a 72 Monte with a 402. With my 4 door I tries to modify some things but in the end I just like how stock engines work and run.

Yep, I had a 69 concours wagon which was "useful" lol
Of course you could haul things in it too.
