What’d you buy?

Went to the pick and pull today, came back with an Expedition Console to go in the Excursion. This is a mod that many people do, it will require trimming the console to match the floor of the Excursion.

It was dirty and they had a bunch of Expeditions so I pieced and parted together the best lid, body etc and found the cupholder inserts and gave it a good cleaning.

The bottom picture is a filler panel I made replacing the rear audio and climate controls in the Expedition. I took those out before going to pay, didn't want to be charged for them. My idea for the filler is an Inverter plug and more USB ports.

Along with that I got an air intake tube for the Vibe and latches out of another Expedition to install in the Excursion to hold the filler panel up to the back of the 2nd row seats.

Nice score.......mind me asking how much they shook out of you? Around here, it's always like getting a cattle prod up the wazzoo upon checkout. That's why I get pricing beforehand, rather than spending the time down in the trenches only to leave the goods on the counter in disgust.

I stopped going for two main reasons.
I have no use for parts newer than about 1980, and the newer policy of nickel and dime'ing you for every little component of the item you are buying.
Then add in "Core charge" for disposable plastic bits with no recycle or scrap value whatsoever.

Less than $50, didn't even charge me for the air intake hose and other parts. I also scored a new USB charger in a car and a book of stamps!

I strip off everything I don't need while at the car, I have been nicked and dimed before too. Like, if you need a bumper cover, take the grill pieces out of it and buy just the cover (unless you need the grill pieces.)

M2 is the only way to go these days. The throughput of a sata ssd doesn't even compare to the M2.

Just had an old client order a dell XPS 13th generation 24 core i9 with 64 gig of ram and an 8 gig GeForce RTX and it has a 2tb M2 drive.

These are the ones that I built for one of my cousins (all of them went to the company he was working for - the white one is the only one I photographed the case on). The white one was the first one I built for him (Core i7 6-core, Nvidia 750 TI video card, 64 GB of RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD). The black one (which is the thid one I built for him - I can't find the pics of the second one I built) has an AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-core, with a 1 TB NVMe SSD (main boot drive), a 2 TB NVMe SSD (drone data drive), and an XFX AMD RX 580 video card (8 GB). All three computers ran excellent, but he had to upgrade the video card in the second one I built, because it had half the video RAM of the first computer (he is the one who chose it) and was not keeping up on compiling the aerial drone footage.

Can anything be done to make this Dell Latitude E6530 work faster? I got it refurbished from my SIL, we have 5G? Or whatever is the fastest FIOS service but this things fairly out of date compared to new units, or is it better to just drop the $$$ on a new laptop?

Faster in what way? I looks to have a Core i7 processor, with 16GB of RAM, and an SSD, so the machine itself should run quite well. Depending on which wireless protocol it supports, the only way to make it faster on the internet, would be to ensure that your wireless router is at least at the same level as the wifi card in the laptop.

The router was installed when they came and bumped us up to 5G’s, the FIOS guy said my laptop was too old for 5G full use, just wondering if there’s something I could change inside the unit to make it faster? Maybe I need a new WiFi card guess I should check what it is

What’s this?

What’s this?

It's a filler plate for an expansion slot. It looks like the laptop supports a maximum of wireless N, which has a maximum speed of 300 Mbps. So, unless you can find a faster wireless card (which may be next to impossible), you might look to upgrade. Newegg has a bunch of laptops on sale right now up to 60% off. Just read the reviews or ask if you aren't sure. If the laptop support WiFi 6 or 7, you should be good to go on speed. I am personally a fan of the AMD Ryzen line of processors (Ryzen 5, 7, or 9).
