Fuel regulator set to 5.5psi

My current AFR Range (as it fluctuates):
Idle: 13.9 - 15.0
Cruise: 13.3 - 14.5
WOT: 12.5 - 12.9 Consistently drops to 12.5 and slowly rises to 12.9
I haven’t checked the HP 1,000 to see what size PV etc is in it, think I’ll start with the gauge and adjustments 👍🙂

The 1st thing I noticed is this 850 is a vacuum secondary. Are you sure you want to run that ?
Engine Masters has proved the double pumpers make more HP, simply because they can deliver more fuel at WOT.

The reason you are rich is probably the .040 primary nozzle. Most 850 DP come with .028 or .031.
I noticed Frieberger on Engine Masters had a .035 on his Holley 950 ultra.
The 50 cc pump is also unnecessary. So when you hit the gas, that 50cc pump and huge nozzle are drowning the engine IMHO

LOL, I have a "brand new" 80531 850 vacuum secondary Holley in the box. It was taken off a ZZ502 crate engine and I bought it for $350 years ago.
It's unmodified. I can ship it to you ? That 1000 cfm carb sounds kind of big ?
Wow, I just checked my 850 vac secondary and the primary nozzle is .040 ! So yours hasn't been modified. Just the pump.

The reason I decided to not use the 850 VS was everyone on OCS hated it. They said they couldn't get the secondaries to work correctly.
But I never sold the carb. Still have it.

850 is what came stock on the 502ci 502hp, the engine builder/dyno owner where my engine was done put his dyno mule modded Holley 750XP? to break my engine in and did a few pulls, after putting my 1,000HP on it gained 40+ HP and he never touched the carb only turned the dist once by ear, he told me get it in the car and bring it back and I’ll tune it on the stretch in the parking lot but I haven’t been up there, he said my 850 needed a rebuild and not going to bother even trying it but I did try it in the car but he was right it’s needing a rebuild, Oh IMO the new 850 you have would be a perfect street carb for these 489/496’s that are built for the street like ours are

I appreciate the offer but think I'll get this HP 1,000 straightened out, why aren't you going to use it?
I have a brand new 850 double pumper with no choke.
It has the same size throttle bore as a 750, but it's rated as an 850 because
they removed the choke and streamlined the surfaces.
That 1000 cfm carb is too big IMHO .

That's what I'm going to talk to the pro carb builder about, if he say's it's too big I'll have him set up my Classis 850 for my engine, I think yours like mine is a dual feed single pump carb

I wanted to build a 489/496 with oval ports & a Qjet. Cant seem to get to it though.
Easy 550-600hp, big enough cam & heads & carb/EFI 650-700+, builder that put mine together said with his ported & polished heads, his solid roller cam it would easily been 700+hp, I said would I be able to run a/c? he said no, I said I'm gettin old and want ac so 600 is fine  He assb. my Mike Lewis rotating assb & heads and my shelf 231/239 at .050, .600/.600, 110 lsa cam and after 5-6 dyno pulls hit 600 # & 590hp (y) :)

When I talked to AED about their 750, 850 and 950, They said that after the 850 and 950 were nearly identical in flow. Talking and reading others with regards to 1000's have stated the same with no real advantages.

Drivability, I don't think you will notice a difference at 600HP.

I said the same thing to Mark when he built my engine about A/C. Having driven 700, 800 and 900hp cars on the street, Id much rather drive a full-time street-able 600hp daily. I'm saying a street car only that doesn't see track time. A properly setup street car with 600 hp is usable. Anything on the street past that and its just fun for bragging and blowing tires off.

I forgot to mention when I was talking to Mike Lewis about the engine before buying anything I said I'd like 600/600 I was also looking at the Lunati 231/239 cam and be able to run ac here in Fl, I told him I had 2 Eddy RPM AG 1 R & 1 O port but the O port was on a great running 454 but I'd pull it if he thought I should use it, and I wanted Brodix heads he said the R port 294's would work fine on my 489 street engine rec'd CNC option and cutting to 115cc, he also rec'd 10.7-10.8 comp, he hit the nail on the head, also the machinist/builder did a great job (y) (y) :)

Well looks like I need a bottle of ace, crap is popping off the bung think it has a zinc coating I need to grind off? I was going to run the bolt in from inside to hold bung in place but then thought it might get welded to

You don't need to be breathing burning zinc. Dip it muratic acid for a few minutes takes the zinc right off.
It's not stainless is it?

Got 1 so far so good, and done 👍🙂 coating on my C clamps caught fire but that’s fine

You get the same thing brazing if you get the puddle too hot, kind of sizzles & smokes & about 15 minutes or so you don't feel so good.
I have done very limited brazing. I remember with oxy/acetylene, if you get the puddle to hot it pops on you like the fourth of July. At least with mild steel.
