Spark Plug Reading

I have done very limited brazing. I remember with oxy/acetylene, if you get the puddle to hot it pops on you like the fourth of July. At least with mild steel.
It did a cpl times but I wanted to be sure I got good penetration and I was outdoors with a pretty good breeze so no bad smell but I’ve burnt my lungs before from torching leaning over top of an ac unit replacing compressors and burned Freon, that’ll stop you breathing real quick for a few seconds, I had to order 3.5” collector flange gaskets so won’t be going back together till Sat 😒 going to paint them with VHT silver

Nah, I'm in love with the 850 double pumper. If it breaks my heart I'll go back to vacuum secondarys LOL

I do have the "other setup" ; the eddy model 1910 quadrajet and 427/390 hp cast iron intake. That's the one I want to get sorted out !
What intake do you have for the Holley?

Performer RPM ; not the airgap

What you don’t like cleaning crap out from underneath AG’s 😆 I’ve wiped more crap from under 2 of them but I got really good deals on them, I’d choose a regular RPM over an AG if it wasn’t over cheaper price, IIRC Pontiac & Mopar intakes we’re all an AG type, been a long time since I had either though

Got the collector flanges in place but when I took them off I noticed there was only 2 lock washers and still need to pick some up so it’ll get finished Sat, I was in Largo today so stopped at Gearhead and picked up Remflex gaskets 👍👍

Look good and fit nice (y)
Thank you, I did need to dimple them in the area where I put the bolts in from bottom of motor mount stands even after using a cut off wheel, I think if I put the bolts in from top but harder to get the nuts on No need for dimples Edit engine builder said it needed larger tubes for more power but IMO it’s fine 🙂 but I’m sure he’s right on more power

I think 1-7/8" primaries are perfect.
Engine Masters did a header shootout on a 600 hp BBC and the 1-7/8 were extremely close to the 2" (5 hp?).
I remember it was insignificant ; that's why I was considering going with 1-7/8 instead of 2".
But I'm looking at exhaust cutouts and if I install them, I don't see any reason to look at bigger headers.

I'd go with 1 7/8" headers, the ones I'm using have 3.5" collector flange opening then whatever size cut outs & exhaust you want to use, I'm using a SS 3" X Pypes kit I bought yrs ago IIRC under $400 including Violator mufflers, the kit was short a few clamps & hangers but no big deal

This test verifies what we are thinking ; the 1-7/8 made 20 more HP than the 1-3/4.
The 2" made the same HP as 1-7/8 up to 5900 rpm, then it made 10 extra above 6100 rpm.
They added an 18" collector extension and it made a huge difference in torque from 3000 to 5000 rpm.

I cant remember if we had collector extensions on my headers when it was on the dyno, hum

Looks like no one makes a 1-7/8 header for a 67 Chevelle so I'm stuck with 2" primaries.
The Hooker is by far the best selling and has a bigger collector, so that's what I'll go with.
I'll make sure they fit before I sell my Headmans.

Just read reviews Charles 5 yrs ago said they fit his 67 Chevelle with a 454 & 4 speed "With some attitude adjustment" so probably some Dinging required, I used some wood against the tube where it needed to be dinged and BFH :) Just remembered Charles said he had Eddy heads too

Well got got a little farther but now needed at home, so far it’s running between OK and Lean but it did jump to Rich before it warmed up some, I’m using the gauge under the hood if I need to adjust the carb, I’ll put it back on the column later, was charging my Headlamp gizmo from the van lighter charger and killed the cpl yr old battery lol Oh those numbers were between 1,000-1,500 rpmFAF93CFA-1875-4A7B-A88D-FDA01A672F92.jpeg510F6771-E998-45A8-A828-A03945E15A64.jpeg
