Code on firewall

I have a 1964 Chevelle Malibu SS. I have coded everything I possible can but in the firewall close to the trim tag I found some stamped numbers. Can anyone please tell me what they are or where I can find any information about them?

Never owned a '64 and that year used unique model code numbers compared to 65 and beyond. The 64-5637 on the cowl tag tell you it's from a malibu base coupe 2dr. Then the firewall upper stamping says 5411 Z5? if I could stab at it, the 5411 represents the entry level 300 chevelle 2dr sedan, but since that part is interchangeable with a malibu, it was most likely used universally with both series, possibly more. The Z5?.....no clue unless it's a date code which is very common to see on stamped metal components. None of these types of body stamps are significant unless your car has had replacements panels and also a rare model, then the pedigree would represent better having all chevy stampings in the correct place and lined up chronologically.

Is the stamp on the fender or firewall ?
Never seen that on another car.
If on the fender, it looks like the fender was replaced and that stamp is some kind of ID # ?

Nothing has been replaced, all parts are matching numbers. I think it says Z38 and there are letters under that. I will take a pencil and paper to it tomorrow to get the correct markings.
Did they make Malibu 300 SS? My girl has many options that were not factory and she came out of Fremont which had a lot of mistakes.

Z was the vin designator for Fremont CA. plant of origin, but I've never seen it in this context.

I think the H was for Freemont.. Please correct me if I’m wrong and guide me in the right place.

You're correct, H in '64, then it changed to Z in '65 and beyond. As I said, I've never owned a '64 and I've really never studied the many differences the '64 codes were.

I’m just sites what kind of code it is.. it’s stamped in the firewall with no plate like the trim tag. If you do happen to research it and find out anything, please let me know. Thank you

Will do......check your rear quarter panels along the gutter. You'll have to open the trunk near the hinge just outside the seal should be another similar code. In later years these codes consist of the week it was stamped, a 2 digit number, and the model series , such as your 5411. Since the quarter panels are malibu specific, that number should be 5637

LOL, I toured the Fremont plant as a school field trip back in the 60's.
We arrived just before lunch.
When we went back to the busses the number of brown paper bags with bottle necks sticking out of them in the parking lot was impossible to miss.
So even back then many of the assembly line guys were drinking their lunch.

I kind of figured😂🤣. Thank you for that info! If I was drinking my lunch and working at a plant, I’d play around too!!

Try this site. I should answer most questions and then some.

I checked mine this morning and, it was painted over when I redid my car and I cant tell what they say now. IIRC part of the numbers were 4583.
And yes, I believe the number stamped on my quarter panel is 4583 also. Could be a 6, it`s been about 20 years. I will check that later after work.

Thank you. I have been on that site when I coded her, she’s registered in that site as well. I couldn’t find anything in regards to the stamp.
