One of our girls test drove a new Caddy Escalade and didn’t like it so now she’s thinking of a Land Rover/Range Rover, anyone know anything about them? other than IMHO Over Priced lol

I know my buddy's wife just over a year old LR has been in the shop longer than she's had it in her driveway. Currently in the shop for turbo related issues (twin turbo engine). Been there for about 5 months now. And its been there MANY times. they paid just over 120k .

Classic Land Rovers are hammer reliable.
I really should give mine more care.
They were still great when they were still simple, basic FI and a distributor.
Now? I think they are owned by TATA of India?
They lost their original mission purpose and are just another showboat full of "Tech" (Dreck!). :(

Range Rovers/Land Rovers routinely end up at the bottom of the reliability lists - it has been that way for years. You couldn't pay me to own one. In fact, some billionaire said you can write off $158,000 on your taxes if you purchase a Range Rover, because of their rapid depreciation. England should be ashamed of themselves for producing trash like that.

I am kind of looking for another older one.
Oh, and there are kits to drop a SBC into those older models too.
A 283 would be great, plenty of power but not so much it destroys the drivetrain.
LR/England let the Wogs take over, India running Rover, disgusting.

A friend dropped a rover 215 alum motor into his '36, against my protests. I guess it was a form of imitation, since I built a 425 buick nailhead dual quad for my 36 and I guess it made an impression, small one but none the less.

My sister had a land rover that was in the shop more often than not. Cost a ton to fix. Twice the dealership couldn't fix the problem. They had to send it to a specialist in the area called the Omega Auto Clinic.
aka The car wizard on You Tube.

My advice is run Forest run.

I had a '75 Jaguar XJ6 but the stock engine (and electrical systems) sucked. Soon as I did a 350/350 conversion and rewired the car GM style, it was super dependable and never had any issues again (outside the norm like starter replacements and such).

I almost bought a mid to late 80's Jag that had a company in Ca. name plate under the hood with that conversion but my mech friend that owned it said he had a few electrical Gremlins to fix first, never heard anything and forgot about the car till now, very sharp looking car

Unless you did the electrical conversion too, the car was still plagued with all kinds of electrical issues, hence why I rewired mine.

I'll tell her keep looking, she has a Toyota mini van and likes it Okay but they want something new and sportier, I think I should tell her look at a higher tier Highlander, I think that's Toyo's biggest SUV?

The 4 Runner is their biggest SUV currently, but it was the Sequoia for a little while.

The mech was a retired Buick dealer mechanic and was having a hell of a time with the wiring, I think that's probably why I just forgot about the car, didn't want his headaches

Yeah, the biggest issue was tying in the ignition switch, the turn signals, and e flashers, the rest was easy. Just rip the rest out and rewired it and then it was fine, but took me like 3 weeks to get the switches (ignition and directionals) working right.
