What’d you work on today?

Derek is in corn & bean country.
I've been at the Monticello Nuclear Plant for a few weeks. Everyone there was crazy about ice fishing !
I was sent there in 2011 because that GE turbine is controlled by a mechanical hydraulic system.
The speed and load of the machine has no electronics ! It's controlled by oil pressure.
The turbine speed became unstable when the shaft grounding system failed and shaft current ate up the bronze gear that controlled the hydraulic pressure.
One of my favorite jobs ever as there was a lot of political pressure to fix it quickly.
When we did succeed in diagnosing and repairing it very quick, they didn't want to believe us. LOL
Plant is at the top left.

Some are crazy about ice fishing up here too, but I've never been ice fishing.
I think Derek is about 100 miles to the SE.
Bought a RV in Monticello about 6-7 years ago.

Good looking car. Is the GT an LS motor? Awfully close to 12s. Like a stickier tires or a gentle tailwind from 12s.

Fell asleep driving😳
I’ve never done it but it’s a fear I have. Once drove straight from south Texas to northern Michigan, 22 hours straight. Nodded once or twice and scared the shit out of me.
I have recurring dreams of falling asleep driving and in my dreams I’m trying to wake myself up before I run into something.

Yes, I'm down near Rochester, an hour South of Minneapolis/St.Paul
Very rich black dirt in my area, all corn and beans if you look around, but "mostly rocks and cows" if you ask our Democrat Governor.

Yes, aluminum 6.0. Kind of an oddball engine, basically an LS2 with LS3 heads from the factory.
RWD with 6L80e and same rear end as a 5th Gen Camaro, but with 2.91 gears.
The 13.003 was on drag radials. On street tires it was a tenth slower... I really wanted that 12.999 but no such luck. A better converter and gears would put it there easily though. I picked too big of cam for the stock converter. I planned to put a mild converter in it, and swap in a 3.23 Camaro diff and run mid-12s, but have too many irons in the fire.

I've pulled a lot of all-night drives, but have the experience to know when I need to either take a quick nap, get some caffeine, or use something like sunflower seeds to keep me awake.
He's lucky he went in where he did with nothing to hit. Jenna felt bad about not paying attention or noticing he was tired. He's on a permit, so she was supposed to be supervising.

Thought the rocks & cows thing was north of Duluth. Oh well he's just an idiot anyway.

Been stripping the body so I can get started with a little rust repair and fiberglass work. The fender lips were trimmed to allow bigger tires early in it's life. I noticed the driver side quarter panel was cream colored resin, where the '66 used gray colored resin. After close inspection there's no sign of original paint on that quarter and I see splice evidence very close to the rear door jamb. That will be taken care of since I bought all 4 fenders from Corvette image to do the repair the correct way. No splices, all factory appearing and correct. It's a ton of work, but needs to happen.

647DF955-4AF9-4739-82F2-AE9B471D340F.jpegThis is a more of What I Didn’t Work on today, went over to get the car out of the garage and finish putting the Pas side Int door handle, vent window crank, door pull or arm rest and finish screwing the door panel on and put the Drv door weather strip on then go for a drive but No! can’t find anyone around to move this beat up limo 🤬

Took me 2 hours and 40 minutes driving down to St Pete and finally got to meet Rick @Shovelrick . Rick was kind enough to save me a 3 ton split system that he pulled out from a job he was installing a minisplit on, but he went above and beyond. Not only did he save the system for me, but cleaned it, and prepared it for me so I could install it. Thanks Rick, I sincerly appeciate the effort you went through to help me out. Now I can have A/C in my shop and not sweat so badly on the hot and humid days. Yesterday it was 99 with a heat index of 118. That's what I wanted this A/C for.

That aside, I must say I'm amazed at the people so far I've met since becoming active in the car forums, and those who I've shared a common mentality with have made it more than pleasant, and meeting Rick was no different. Rick is as nice in person as he is on the group here, so what you read is what you get. I'm privileged to have been able to meet you Rick and I consider you a good friend. Thank you. You truly are one of the good guys.

Nope, but the POS blocking him in is just that. The area is very tight and for the idiot to park like that was really careless.

I had considered backing into it a couple of times with my truck (don't really care about dents cause it's a work truck), but didn't want to get Rick in any kind of trouble.

It was Great meeting you Kevin and very glad I could do a little something to help you cool your shop, I’m appreciating the Adult beverages you brought me right now 😁 Kathy is buying our Furry kids toys with (Some lol) of the $$$ you gave me 👍👍🙂 Thank You and Really Wonderfull meeting you 👍👍🙂. PS need anything from me when you install it let me know

Pretty sure people figured that out Rick. That's why I said you set it up and prepared me for my install, but enjoy the beer. It's just a little thank you from Lisa and I.
