2005 Ford Excursion 6.0L

2ish yrs ago I had the comp replaced on my 05 Express 2500 with a 4.8 V8, was a little over $800 with a flush and I Think a new drier, 1st place I went to that a cpl friends rec’d the gal wrote up the ticket spelling Drier as Dryer like a clothes dryer and orifice tube as Orfice tube, I’m not all that picky but if you can’t spell what you’re going to do for me I’m not giving you my business 😆 I took it to Ice Cold Auto Air and for roughly $40 more they fixed it, I probably could have done it but I’m not set up to do auto air and didn’t know my new best buddy that knows his shit with auto and boat ac, under $2K for what they’re doing at a dealer (Warranty) sounds like a heck of a good deal to me 👍👍🙂
Estimate is $1200 plus tax. Freon is full so not being billed for it. They gave me an honest estimate, my dealer friend has also been involved with the repair, he is the test driver.

There are certain miles in a car's life where they need repair IMO, 60K, 100K, 150K and 200K and so on. The Excursion is over 200K and I have it in for planned work.

It needs Injectors, 2 are bad, going to do all 8. Original injectors lasted 200K miles and for a 6.0L that is excellent. I have a list of other items that are still being looked at. Yes, it is going to be expensive but when you push a vehicle hard like I do it repairs need to be done before major failures. Cheaper than $80K for a new one.

I was thinking about buying my in-laws 2006 Town car. 70k mile cream puff, always garaged.
But license is $80/yr, insurance is $60/month and maintenance. Plus it would have to be parked outside, which I hate doing that.
I don't know how you handle so many cars ?
:)

How much are injectors for that? When I changed them in my 04 Duramax they were about $2800.

As long as you fix stuff as it arises it is not so bad. There are 4 drivers in the house so 4 there, 2 Chevelles, they don't really count, and 3 other cars.

That is about right, about $275 each. IIRC a Duramax is really a pain to do, the 6.0L is not so bad. I am letting the dealer do it,, also if I bought the injectors and installed them there is a $200 core charge each.

I am having a cold shift issue they are looking at too but it may be related to low power when cold from the injectors but as they look at it I am letting them take the transmission fluid bath.

Yea the LB7 are kind of a pain have to pull valve covers, & they were the years that they only lasted about 100K. But they were the best engines other than that quite a few guys on the Dmax forums have over a million miles without going into the engine.

Well, I have a challenge. Spending a ton of cash on the Excursion. Rear axle clutches replaced, all 8 injectors replaced, transmission service, all these are routine and done.

Now the issue.. The cruise was not working, the steering wheel wire was bad, found one in a pick and pull that worked. Still an issue, may be a clock spring, discontinued and Excursion item only, not reproduced, mine has steering wheel HVAC, radio and cruise switches.

We are heading South for Christmas. IDK what is going to happen.

Good news, clock spring is not bad, they had to clear codes. The cruise does still not work, I need to locate a switch. Supposed to be ready for pickup today.

Found a new set of the discontinued NOS steering wheel switches on EBAY coming from London. Go Figure. Should be here mid January.

Excursion is back, New injectors make the engine idle smoother. Along with injectors all of the high pressure O-Rings and dummy plugs were replaced.

Rear axle clutches were shot, a couple were welded together, that was definitely my issue on turns and on pulls.

I had my steering column worked on too, new shifter bushings, cruise diagnosed as bad switches.

I spent a ton of cash (for me) on the old truck going for another 200,000 miles. Can't buy a new one for the cost of this repair.

Well done! How big is the invertor? ..... One thing Ford hit the mark on, was those dip down side windows.

Replaced all 4 front lights with OEM Ford, not aftermarket. Replaced leaking washer bottle and replaced a broken door on the overhead console (junkyard find last week).

I bought the OEM parts from Tasca, they seem to have the best price, even my dealer wouldn't price match.

I bought parts from LMC Trucks.com years ago and they seemed pretty good for parts, have you ever checked them?

Been making baby steps with the Excursion, been fixing stuff that has been needed to be done for a while.

Still trying to fix the A/C internals. I ripped the dash apart last weekend for diagnostics and replace a vacuum manifold, still did not correct the hot water valve not closing. Dash is back together. Long story short, I have ordered a replacement EATC module, I don't feel it is commanding the doors correctly and will have to take the dash apart again. I am going to remove the blower fan and try to clean the evaporator core the best I can, I am still suspect of the recirculation door motor.

Trip computer is off for repairs, multiple codes in the system for it.

I repaired one coolant leak and the radiator now leaks, it leaked last fall in the mountains too, plastic tank to core seal bad. I pulled the radiator out and will pick one up Monday from Rudy's Diesel. I did a coolant filter delete, after market filter has been on the truck for many years, it just gets in the way.

Repaired a broken door in the overhead console.

List is getting shorter,
