Rat or Mouse in my Truck

I cut a 5 gal bucket bottom out about 2” tall and put clutches out of a bike in it then covered with auto trans fluid to soak a couple days for cleaning, next day I found baby Opssums ( thought they were rats at 1st) laying dead on the garage floor with what looked like blood on their heads then figured it was the trans fluid, maybe a cpl inches of trans fluid in a bucket tall enough chickens can’t get into with a ramp for mice to get in the bucket? I ran into a horticulturist from USF when I was at Home Depot buying rat traps and got to talking with him, he said to wrap wire around ateable rat bait and hang the bait a few inches off the ground so they’ll need to stand on back legs to eat, can’t drag the bait away and place an empty box a few feet away with some type off bedding in it, they’ll eat the bait, can’t drag the bait away where they want, crawl into the box and die, also make a small hole in the box so they think they’re hiding in a safe place, this conversation was probably 7-8 yrs ago but I don’t think I left anything out

Reminds me of a guy on the Harley site. He was chasing rats with a 9mm and made Swiss cheese out of his walls and doors, the guy liked to drink, it was a comical thread

I think I know that guy 🤣 at least another guy like him but haven’t seen him in over 10 years, has an early 40’s Knucklehead and a late 40’s Ford F1

Saw this trap door type deals on Amazon. Look like they’d work pretty well.

No, they were sitting around on the fences waiting for the chickens to run, my dog chased them a few times.
I watch around here when our little dogs are outside, Hawks have taken out some pigeons (👍👍) and Doves in our backyard so we worry about the little furry kids

My dogs are 40 and 85 lbs so I am not worried about them, I do worry about cayotes, sometimes it sounds like they are around us 360 degrees.

We have Coyotes too up here too, few nights ago they sounded like they 20 ft. from the house.

We have coyotes too, but haven't heard them in a few weeks. They are usually most active in the winter months, but I've only heard them twice this year in the distance.

I’m really surprised they’re around here with the population so heavy, guess that means plenty of small pets for food?

We have Timber Wolves & sounds like there's getting to be a lot of, the state is even thinking about a season on them.

The only good wolf in the lower 48 is a dead one.
We spent a lot of time and money on eradicating them, then the eco-nuts forced them back on the states.
They do make very nice coats, not sure how many hides are required.
