My 69 project

A little over a week ago I sent my manual steering box to be rebuilt. Here are some pictures of before, when I received it yesterday and where I am today. It has been sealed to this point. I still have more detail work. One another note I was able to track down original bolts to frame from a Chevy dealer. I was able to get a list of dealer that still carried them. Like seven or eight. Called first one he said sure let me check. Comes back told me box was empty. Called number two. Guy said he had two left. I asked him to hold them as I try a few other places. Said sure. Called number three no luck. Four a girl says yup got three. Shipping out. Could find washers or nuts. All dealer and especially part people I contacted were very helpful all over the us.

It’s a place here in Washington. I won’t give the name because I’m not happy with what I paid for. Trying to let them fix that before I would recommend them. What you see with the yellow tag is what they sent me. I did the cleaning. Other than that they did have to put new bearings and fix a pitted shaft.

Wow, you'd think they'd clean it first, then rebuild it. I'd have been unhappy about that.

Don't know what you paid, but I'm sure it wasn't cheap.

Yes and not really. Just a communication issue, they are trying to work with me.

Some pictures are for before , then after they finished and some as I’m finishing. I guess our ideas of not painting leaving bare are two different ideas. That is theirs. The other was mine. He said mine was a different class of bare. Funny thing is, it’s always been bare.

Thanks. It’s a lot of work but looks good with little money spent. That’s going to mike at brake booster. He’s plating my dust shield, caliper bracket, and calipers.

Started taking the lower steering rod apart. Used a screwdriver to take the clip off.

Got these cleaned for the third blast. Then clean and sand prep for sealer.

Looks like you're going to have dishpan hands with all the cleaning you're doing. Restoring a part back to it's original look for me is very rewarding and satisfying, but then again, I'm OCD and I like clean.

I was just thinkings someone here told me he like to use dish soap for cleaning. I was using simple green before I switched. Now it’s dish soap for me. Thanks for the tip also thanks for following. It is rewarding to see old parts look new again. Love this old/new site we have here. Hopefully this thing going on will end and I can get Shaner here to info my car. I think he is pretty knowledgeable with the 69.

Got it mostly blasted and cleaned. Now a difficult task of blasting as close as I can get without damaging the nylon.

Rubberized electrical tape is what I use to protect areas from blasting damage.

Or dab some clear epoxy on it.
What media you using, the parts look smooth and oem. Very nice.
