1966 LS swap

I will say, I laid the truck intake on top and man, it doesn't look like the hood will clear. I know we disscussed this earlier and someone confirmed it but it will be close! I will let you all know once I get there..

I put the 3/16" plates in there, the largest ones they made. It must have been resting on the one side on the cross-member prior to this because I now have the steering clearance but I have still only about 2 sheets of paper between the pan and crossmember. The other side is probably 1/16" of an inch maybe more.

So hindsight is 20/20 but at this point with all the back and forth I have done and the 50 extra for the plates I suggest anyone else trying this to pay the extra for the holley. I have still read stories that even with the holley people have had some issues but I have also read people have not had issues (@Alwhite00 ). I would say in this case 100 dollars worth the gamble.

At this point it is super tight to the crossmember. Aside from spacing it more which I do not want to do I am just going to roll with it. There is clearance there so I am fine with that.....

Also, a quick note I think originally the tie rod was also hitting bc the engine was slightly cocked since I loosened up the engine mount plates that bolt to the frame.

For the transmission cross-member I went with the CPP one. 185 with tax including delivery from ebay. I called them before ordering and they said it should work and it does. I had to move it back on the slots on the frame and their slider but it works. Also, Holley sells that 1 inch spacer so what I did was just bought some 1" alum from tractor supply, cut it and drilled it. Stacked them and made my own. Kinda hacky but it saved me about 50 bucks and you cannot tell. Plus since I raised the engine up a little I had some adjust-ability there since they were 1/8 plates.

For the trans dipstick i went with a TCI Auto 743865, I could not for the life of me get it to work with their bracket so I took theirs off, made my own and welded it on the tube and then it bolts perfect to the head.

Hope you will have the header clearance needed at the bottom of the firewall. Transmission plug looks really close to the floor pan.

Yep, that is the next thing I am worried about. 350 for the headers is a lot less than 1200ish for the Hooker ones but we will see!
I used some stainless TSP Fbody 1 7/8 headers and TSP rumbler exhaust. Found it new in the box from a military guy that was being deployed and needed money quick. I paid 400 for them I lucked out.

Glad you got the engine in. I'd be a bit concerned with that little of clearance. Keep an eye on it as the engine will settle a bit.

Also you may find some room after the car is sitting on the ground and you go to set rear pinion, driveshaft and trans yoke angles. Meaning your Trans tail could be lowered for better angles. if taking one of the trans spacers out. Of course the opposite would be bad for spacing if needing to be raised.

Looking good though !

Yea at this point I have some clearance which is good but I would feel better with a little more. I was thinking, space it up more, that is really all I can do at this point. I will call speed engineering later today and just see what they say again but I am not expecting anything.

Today I thought, well I have some more shims that came with the kit let's put them all in and see if it helps. Well it gets the engine up high enough but now the bolts do not go into the frame mounts. Ugh, anyway, you guys were right, for the 100 dollars Holley would have been the way to go. I called speed engineering and they pretty much just said well if it is new return it but man, it is banged up from trying to get it to fit at this point, they won't take it back. Anyway, I will try and fiddle with the shims a little more but that is my final though on the situation.

Elongate the holes just a little and it should fit.

I would darn near have to take the engine out to do that, I am just going to leave the clearance that I have and be done with it, I have been fiddling with this for 4 days I am exhausted. Unreal, I wish I could throw this thing through their window lol!

Take a break for a day or two, refocus and then get back to it.

If you get too pissed off you'll rush.

Not trying to tell you what to do obviously, but if it were me, a "pound of prevention" could save you monumental headaches later when it's all put together.... just sayin'.

Haha you can sense my frustration :)

You are right, I have it where I want it for now but I will take a day off tomorrow and come back to it this weekend!

Thank you!

If only someone would have warned you. 😁

You will get it, hang in there.
