What’d you work on today?

Took my 10,000 mile diesel bath. Changed the oil and filter and fuel filters on the Excursion. The way the frame rail filter is positioned the diesel has no where to go but down the frame and cross-member.

I took a shower but I still have diesel cologne smell.

Been there, done that. Not fun.

Dang equipment, 2 push mowers acted up and for the first time my riding mower had trouble starting. This is the time of year when stuff starts to get tired of working hard all summer.

Installed a new dometic 321 white elongated bowl toilet in the bus (I hate small toilets and my junk not within the opening when doing my business), and then repiped the water heater to full 1/2" pipe. The WH depends on water flow to turn on and fire (on demand gas fired water heater), but the restriction of the original pipe size was not allowing enough volume of water to keep the WH on when more cold water was mixed while taking a shower. That's solved now.

Fired up the 1970 MG Midget I have been tinkering with for a few months.
First time it has run in about twenty years.
Lots of dead electrical circuits to revive.
I am not blaming Lucas, twenty years of sitting is never good no matter who built it.

Hey John, I must have been snoozing, you're working on a aztec bronze '66? Details please. I recently sold a '66 AB out and in, SS car.....hated to sell it, but it needed to go.

I love Aztec bronze but I went back to the original color of the car, bolero red. Maybe the lighting makes it looks different.

I wasn’t happy with the clear so the car has been sanded so I can flow coat it.
Also the dash top is a very flat clear which might affect the appearance.

Dash top.

Tired of working on the Midget so much.
So began to dismantle the Lotus Europa.
They are actually very easy to work on mechanically.
The fiberglass body is the bigger challenge but also more consuming of time than dollars.
Have to repair my forklift before putting the body on my rotisserie.
Working by myself so need to be able to rotate for good access to all surfaces.

Man you guys got a lot of cool toys. Chevelle, MG and a Lotus. What else you guys got?

Friend of mine from my post grad years had 2 Challengers and a 70 Camaro SS. He also had a mid 70s Vette and for a few years owned a Lotus Esprit turbo (maybe they were all turbo, I don’t know). Fun ride. Probably the most scared I’ve ever been as a passenger in a performance car. Finally got rid of it because even doing the work himself, the maintenance was constant and expensive.

Um, 78 Alfa Romeo Spider, Tube frame VW based "Street legal" dirt buggy, Locost 7 project, 2 Dio Tipo kit cars, Tatum Crusader kit car project, TR6 project (For sale), "Trick-6" project Triumph GT6 with Buick V6 and T5, Land Rover 101 FC (former missile carrier) the C30 and a junk Chevy Geo that may become a single seat race car. I think that is all of them, I have cut down and sold a few.
My biggest accomplishment this year has been NOT buying more cars despite the temptations throw my way.
Now trying to actually FINISH a couple.
Have to admit I am trying to get a Morris Minor PU to build as a DD, C30 is killing me at 10MPG and no fun to justify it.
One Dio Tipo and the Locost 7 are supposed to be sold for income once completed.
Really going to hate selling them but need something beyond SS for income.

Wow! That’s quite a list. I don’t really know much about them but always dug the Lotus 7 style cars. Must be fun to drive and get lots of looks.

I had to look up Dio Tipo and Tatum Crusader but they look badass as well.

The side that faces the front of the car is a bit rough looking from improper storage. Thinking of using Tank Tone on the visible part and the clear coating the whole thing with a flat 2k clear to protect.

I finished up some underhood detailing on my '68 Caprice. I started out to install a new hood to cowl seal. It was easier to take the hood off, then the cowl screen looted crappy, as did the wiper linkage. I ended up with a new wiper motor to replace the functioning but ugly original, new cowl seal, cleaned and painted the screen, which on these is a piece of metal screen like what we used to call hardware cloth, cleaned and painted wiper linkage and the top of the cowl and cowl trough... you get the idea.
It looks pretty nice though.

Got some parts primed. Plan is to re-clear the dash front because I thought it was too flat for my liking. Plus there were a couple of areas that didn’t get good coverage such as near the glove box opening.

Sprayed the AC vent bezels with adhesion promoter and primed with tinted primer so the base covers well with 2 good coats. Also stripped the glove box door a few weeks ago and I had primed the bare metal with black summit epoxy I was using on brackets and such. Also put a sealer coat of red. Hopefully get my butt up early enough to spray color and clear before it gets too hot. It was 113-115 high here in the East Bay but cools down to a mere 104 or so tomorrow, so I might need a light jacket. Bought wood sealer and stain for the Lotus dash veneer.
Playing with a small sample first.
Have to sort out my vacuum system before doing the full dash.

Painted these the other day. Other than the other AC bezel wrinkling a bit, I’m very happy. I had painted it previously but mixed the clear a little too flat and saw that I missed a couple of areas with the base coat. So I touched up the base and recleared the whole thing. Maximum gloss for this clear is semigloss. I think it looks great. No runs and hardly any dust nibs etc. 31BB93AA-A845-4EDE-8E52-102C598E0AF5.jpeg2AE2598F-B8ED-4FF4-B8F6-B9AAED3A5633.jpeg
