Unless you process your own chickens it is hard to find a place to do it. We do it for the eggs. At least chickens lay for several years, if you kill a hen to eat it you lose egg production. I may get tired of them but in a SHTF scenario eggs will keep you alive. Old birds are good for stew, may come to that although my broody hens are older. Funny thing is hens will lay where a broody hen is when she leaves to go and eat. She is basically the surrogate warming blanket. What you don't want to eat something that's been Pumped up with Who Know's What from the grocery store? Crap that the Gob't is putting in Chickens, Cows, Wheat etc. I'm 1,000% sure causing strange side effects, Smart people Not eating Gob't Vaccinated foods
I have an older bird that a hawk injured, she is blind. I don't have the heart to off her. She is in the pen with my 3 that are a few weeks old and do not need heat lamp warmth.
