Chevelle project update

I have some scraps of parchment vinyl if you need something.

Cool, thanks. I think I’ll be fine, I’m going to pick up a pair of the Buick bezels that go behind the arm rest. That should cover the hole.

I figured out what’s going on. I’m not 100% sure because I don’t have the old ones to compare to. But it looks like the holes for the armrest screws are in the right place on the door panel. I was able to put the passenger side on with relative ease Using the original holes. with the original door panels the armrest was centered on the part where the chrome trim dipped down in the center. On the new panels it’s not, which makes me think they put that dipped down area in the wrong place on the new panels. pretty disappointing considering how much this interior kit cost me, especially since Legendary is supposedly the shit. But whatever, it will work out ok in the end.

Made a list of things I still need to get done and it’s a short list. Wheels and tires, bumpers, nut and bolt check, clean up the engine bay, install the top, dampers, and a few other things and it’s ready to roll.

Worked on getting the engine squared away - timing, idle mixture, etc. should not have changed since I last ran it, but it idles rough and STINKS. Pretty rich running I think. Got it a little better Adjusting the idle speed and mixture. No power steering assist, pump reservoir is full, pump just doesn’t work. I’ve got a Summit replacement pump I’m going to try out.

Getting there

Also make sure the engine speed slows down when you disconnect the vacuum advance hose.
If the speed doesn't change, the internal diaphragm is probably busted.
If it's busted, the timing will be retarded and it will idle bad.

That’s a possibility. Engine ran fine last time I drove it but that was in 2007. I was expecting to have to replace a few things. I also noticed the terminals on the distributor cap are corroded.

Good chance the carb needs a little refreshing & cleaning too.

A few gallons of ethanol through it should clean it right up. It’s an SMI. When I got it in 2005, he said if I ever changed anything on the car - engine, driveline, etc - send it back in and he’d make some adjustments. The original 2 series is gone, replaced by a limited slip BOP 3.55. Don’t know how much of a difference it would make.

Haven’t touched it really since I drove it out of the garage. Been a busy summer so far. Took a road trip last week with my son to help an old friend move out of his townhouse he’d been in for 23 years. Plus the previous week I bought out an estate collection of 1920s-1950s parts. They were drowning in parts and very much in over their heads. They were having a garage sale to try to unload some of it and you should have seen the looks of relief on their faces when I told them I wanted everything. So Ive been moving that.

Wheels and bumpers next. Almost there.

Replaced the power steering pump today. It just wasn’t working at all. New one works great, and the horrible screeching sound is gone.

Ive been holding off on the wheels, bumpers, and dampers because of an upcoming tuition payment butnIcthink I’ll just put them on myCC. Need to get this thing done.

Thinking about a set of Cragar Soft 8s. Not entirely sold on the black hole where your wheels should be look, though.

I'm not a fan of the Soft 8s... The D-window is better looking. I had the D-windows on my car a while back, but have since sold them.
They were VERY heavy. 17x9s were 40 lbs each. With a tire, they were over 60 lbs

I know you're a tightwad :ROFLMAO: but don't cheap out on wheels. It's the single most important thing about making a car look good.

The Soft 8s are about 39 each. That doesn’t bother me too much, as this isn’t some stripped down sports car. I’ll save the 15# with tire wheels for my Honda 🙂

I haven’t decided really. Still thinking about yours too. Just need to buy something. Too much thinking going on.

If you do decide to buy mine, I can probably relay them to you through Aldinger at KOTM at the end of August.

For an extra $100 can mount and balance a half tread set of 255/40 RT660s too.

Are they white letter? If they ain't white letter it's a no go.... :ROFLMAO:

Is $100 the best you can do? $12 per mount and spin balance, and you're throwing in the tires for free, right? 😁

That's why I don't deal with cl or facebook to buy or sell stuff. Even when I posted that the price was firm, you still get assholes trying to negotiate, and worse, if they actually show up, they pull out cash short of what you're asking. I was selling the genset out of the motorhome and so many people were trying to get it for less than half price when I list the price as firm, so that's when I decided to stop selling to idiots. Last guy says he'll take it off my hands for $500, and I told him he might be able to get that deal if he goes to the dump because I'll throw it away first before I'd sell it to him for $500.

I just had a guy agree to a price on a guitar and when I went to meet him, he tried to cut the price down further. He was actually shocked when I told him agreed price or no deal.
