What’d you work on today?

Owner of the trailer moved it Im hoping it doesnt come back, anyway I wired up the AAW Lock Up kit for conv, works of pressure only anyone ever had any problems doing it that way? Getting a Fire Ext today, read on OCS a guy watched his car burn to the ground the other day 😟
This looks pretty good ? Type b-c. Would CO2 be better because it won't hurt the engine or paint ?
If you have a good electrical system, fire is usually caused by the fuel system and CO2 might be safer for the car ?
 
Parts are holding me up. Waiting on a hub for the Allis Chalmers D10, alternator is off of the Satoh, need to find a pick and pull with a bumper and interior parts for the Mercedes, Excursion is at the dealer getting work done, Cub Cadet is still running but needs a starter repair, winterized the boat yesterday so I guess I am stuck with yard work today.

I haven't went to Home Depot for the fire ext. yet, figured I'd of needed something else from there by now but haven't so going today, I'll look into the CO2 FE, I have new AAW & M&H harnesses under the hood and a 130 or 135 amp Load Boss alt. with a separate electronic reg that's only a cpl yrs old, I did put an aux fuse box next to the battery that I bought at a local marine parts supply to fuse the stereo, power seats, Efans etc. and mounted separate relays but I think I'm good there since everything's properly fused, in the late 90's my GF was driving our 84 T/A 305 T top 5 spd with TBI that had emissions problems and it caught on fire in front of some Mom & Pop Knick Knack store she stop to shop at, they called the Fire dept but hood, windshield was cooked so I bought a 86 or 87 parts car and fixed it
 
Yard work today. Trimmed all of the front bushes, cut down an old dying fruit tree, picked up sticks and hauled everything to the brush pile.

I bought a 16" Homelite electric chain saw at an auction about a year ago. The plum tree was about 10" in diameter and the saw did just fine with it, was kind of impressed, yes, I had to drag an extension cord around. :) . I did save some for firewood.
 
Im going to try to post a video of a small squeal I’ve been hearing every now and then but can’t seem to find where it’s coming from other than the belt drive area, well I think I figured how to take a video and post it but I’ll have to try that another day so I’ll add to this later 🙂
 
Went around the vette epoxied any chips and filled all the pinholes in the filler. After a quick 150 blocking, it'll be ready for spray filler or SlickSand. Tons of hours getting to this point, now it's all downhill. Those fender louvers were a disaster. Repop panels were wavy, inconsistent and just a mess. Since you just can't "work" fiberglass like metal, I had to raise all the lows around the louvers with "vette panel adhesive", then work the rest flat with polyester filler.......now the louver outline varies since all the those edges taper on to flat plane. Had to work the entire louver to match oem, and be the exact same on all 6. Got it though, and the ugly stuff is past me, shop is clean, and ready for next phase.

This weeks work consisted of engine wiring on this Placer Gold 71 I’m doing for a client.
3 days invested and not finished yet. Wiring from scratch and trying to hide everything is ungodly time consuming. Relays behind the distributor, ignition box hidden behind headlight, coil hidden on firewall behind fender, mega fuse tucked behind the battery. And finished off the back with the proper exhaust tips for more cowbell.

More daily driver drama. Thought I had fixed the VVT solenoid problem yesterday. Code reader says it was the exhaust VVT solenoid but I thought I'd be clever and change both (got parts from Autozone). Mistake

1/2 way to work today and check engine light comes back on. Barely got home after work. Car wants to stumble and die when you let of the gas and it idles down.

Pissed off I went to Oreillys intent on buying a better AC Delco part but they weren't in stock so I bought the exhaust VVT solenoid (Dorman). Got home thought it was fixed after taking it for a ride and almost back home it was dying anytime you got off the gas. In the drive way, now the car won't even start. Put back the old exhaust VVT solenoid on... same deal. Won't start.

Put the scanner back on the car and now it's reading Intake VVT solenoid.
That's when I had the "a-ha" moment. When I both new VVT solenoids at Autozone, the exhaust one was in a sealed plastic bag, but the intake one was just loose in the box, had a few marks on it and the wrong mounting bolt was in the box.

They sold me a used part that I guess someone returned. I fixed the original exhaust solenoid problem but then created a new problem by putting on a broken part.

One more trip to Oreillys for the intake solenoid and now the car works. I won't relax until I got to and from work without a problem, but I took it for a 5 mile drive and no problems.

Between parts places that were out of stock and such, I think I went for 6 or 7 parts runs. What a pain in the ass. The irony is exchanging the part is literally a 5 minute job. Take off engine cover (1 bolt). Removed and place part (1 bolt).
 
VVT, LS, IAC, TPS, they all sound like diseases to me! ;)
Give me carbs, points, SIMPLICITY!
The car that made all the runs to the part store was the C10. Qjet runs like a top.

Worst part is that I was going to spend the weekend getting some Chevelle parts ready for paint and got almost nothing done.

CO2 extinguisher's are way more expensive but here's a great deal on one ($152 but shipping and tax puts it at $200)
I already have one of these in my kitchen. I'm going to buy another for the car.
Dry chemical extinguishers will ruin the rings and bore surface inside an engine.
CO2 stops the fire with extreme cold and leaves no residue.

Same here. The weather was awesome (70 degrees) and perfect for working outside.
Trimmed limbs on 2 cedar trees and about 10 dogwood trees for my disabled sisiter-in-law.
Yard looks really nice now and the limbs are high off the ground around the driveway.
 
Replaced a blown compressor at the roofer house that put the roof on my house in 06, ac guy that installed this new system (friend of mine) in 2019 past away earlier this year, couldn’t find a reason for the comp to go out but the new one is purring like a kitten, actually yesterdays job, I cleaned the leaves out the dirt will wash out next rainy day, glad the new comps come with new wire harness

I've been playing the seasonal garage-Tetris that occurs every spring/fall.
I packed the shipping containers with cars and tractors to make room in the shop for some projects over the winter.

Container 1: 1947 Ford 2N tractor, 1955 Chevy Delray, 2006 Corvette Z06
Container 2: 1926 Ford Model T, 1968 Chevelle SS396, 1953 Ford Jubilee tractor

Both had less than 6" of space left with everything parked tight.

I left all the parts in the shop where I'll have heat and lights to sort and take pictures so I can sell stuff all winter. Hopefully I can thin out the piles quite a bit so there's not so much to move in the spring when I re-organize and put some pallet racking and shelving in at least one of the containers.
