What’d you work on today?

Went to my friends house that gave me the big green gun safe I took to our girl in Ky house, they had the garage wall drywall cut out 2’ up from floor and replace from the flood last last year and the ac drain ran against that wall so it was cut out of the way, drain ran into a bucket till it was painted so I ran a new drain line today, didn’t get a pic before they had the shelves back where they went, then went to my plumber friends house just to give his system a Freon check

Spent all my money!
Ordered the new transfer tubes for the lotus, $607.00 delivered to my door.
Shipping was more than the parts.
To buy them from a US vendor would have been around $900.00!
The tube alone is $10.00' in the US.
Not including bending or shipping, shipping about $500.00!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have to get these before I can put my engine in.

Also picked up the rebuilt head for the MG Midget and a MG 1098 crankshaft turned 10/10.
They had been dropped off at the machine shop eight months ago.
Pistons I ordered at the same time should be here Friday.
Need to find someone to bore the block in order to complete the rebuild.
It will be nice to get the Midget on the road, not a fast car but it is a 30 MPG convertible.

Got the old Sears GT-18 "Tractor" running again.
I only have a little over an acre that needs tending so a full size tractor is not worth the expense.
Spring weeds are sprouting, I hope to just continually plow them under this year and not have to deal with them in the fall.

El Camino and Lotus work may be taking a hiatus as I am attempting to buy the means to make some some actual products to have money again.
Older small off-brand CNC Mill in exceptional condition. Cannot run anything larger on my limited power.
The machine is pretty cheap but getting it home may be just too expensive to be able to make the deal.
Going to make a run at it anyway.

Ordered the parts for the repairs and upgrade to my Caterham. The wide track kit moves the front wheels out about 1 1/4” on each side, plus I bought a set of takeoff Bilstein sport dampers from a CSR, which will be a significant upgrade fron the 32 year old Bilsteins that are on the car currently. I plan to upgrade at some point to the semi active dampers which will take a car that’s already incredible in the corners to a beast. Also ordered the side panel and front cycle wings as part of the repair.

Now the big wait. I’ll save on shipping, which with the big side panel would really hurt, because I ran into a guy who imports Caterhams in kit form and he‘ll have them shipped in the same container. Should be June before I get my parts.

That will give me time to pull the transmission on the Honda and figure out WTH is wrong

Finally fixed a problem on the Bronze Chevelle, only been a pain for 25 years!

The inside rearview mirror would not stay in position. I had a replacement mirror mount in my inventory so I decided to replace it, unfortunately it didn't fix it. What did was a slight squeeze on the bracket where the mirror mounts then installing the screw, super simple fix!

Also changed the oil in the bronze Chevelle, and Satoh.

What is that color called? I like it 👍👍
Not sure, it's off a chip I picked out and modified a couple years back. Pulled it back out and shot these, didn't look right, so I added some white toner, still didn't look right so mixed some gold paint in......and that's what you see.

I replaced the calipers, brake pads and hoses on my '68 Caprice. This was the first time I've repacked bearings in a long while, i did it the old fashioned way, working them into a palm full of grease. I even spun them with compressed air to hear them zing, you know, like you are not supposed to do :) It took me back to my gas station days. I could not get fluid to the front til I remembered the button on the back of the hold off valve had to be depressed to bleed, after that, it was easy.
I'll be back on the El Camino brakes tomorrow, trying a longe rpushrod, and will update my thread.

Since I am trying so hard to raise funds to buy an older VMC a buddy just told me about a local partially restored 69 El Camino from an estate for only $1,000.
I had said I was hoping to find an any year car to leave STOCK as a DD.
The family is trying to gather up all the parts.
I think this is less engine and trans.
If I wanted to get over 25 MPG on the highway what would I do for an engine and transmission?

Is the "hold-off valve" the bronze proportioning valve ?

The cheapest daily driver I know of is the Crown Vic, Mercury Grand Marquis made from 2004-2012.
They are rear wheel drive, overdrive V6 and easy to work on.
If the oil has been changed they should go 300k miles.
You can pick one up for $3000 in good shape with maybe 150k miles? $4000 to $5000 will fetch one with low miles.
If the interior is messed up you might walk away with one for a $1000 !
Grand Marquis
Crown Vic

They made great Taxi Cabs after the police got done with them

Has to be an El Camino, I already have other car projects for mileage.
Even the Lotus will do 25+ MPG if I keep my foot out of it.
MG Midget I am building should do even more, but is very small so cannot carry anything.
Giving up the Morris Minor, hate to do that but it is all I have that will raise the funds I need.

My buddy mentioned some sort of double overdrive automatic that can be made to fit?
And a kit to get rid of the troublesome TV cable.

I have a manual valve body in my T200r4 and no need for a TV cable but it makes needing to up & down shift, mines also reverse pattern so no possibility of hitting R when slap shifting
